The Dark World of the Arab Child Slave Trade‎

The Dark World of the Arab Child Slave Trade‎
AINA (press release) – Stephen Brown – Jun 11, 2011

While tens of thousands of adults are also victims of Arab slavers, many people only first took notice of the Arab slave trade in children when reports of enslaved child camel jockeys emerged from Persian Gulf countries. A 2004 HBO documentary on the subject was especially responsible for making Americans aware of this modern-day barbarism. These boys, who were sold by poor parents hoping their offspring would some day experience a better life, were primarily from South Asia. But instead of a life of dignity and meaningful work, they wound up in the Middle East where they were made to race camels for their Arab masters. Beaten and often sexually abused, they were all kept undernourished, so that the camels would have less weight to carry.

“As many as 6,000 child camel jockeys…languished in hidden slavery on ozbah farms, where their masters beat them and starved them to keep their weight down,” wrote E. Benjamin Skinner in his book, A Crime So Monstrous.

[…]

When investigating in the 1990s the enslavement of hundreds of thousands of black Africans in Mauritania by Arab-Berber masters, African-American author Samuel Cotton was stunned to discover that African children were still being kidnapped by Arabs traveling with camels carrying big baskets. The child, usually playing alone, would suddenly be snatched from its play and placed in one such basket, after which its new owners hurried away. The children, he was told, are sometimes found later “hundreds of miles away as slaves.”

Also during his investigation, which was summarized in his highly informative book Silent Terror: A Journey Into Contemporary African Slavery, Cotton was told there was “still a huge trafficking in slaves going on between Mauritania and the United Arab Emirates.”

Black African children are also not always stolen so surreptitiously. Until recently in the southern Sudan, the old-fashioned slave raid witnessed villages being burned down, the men killed and the women and children captured. This was the Arab slavers’ main harvesting tool of humans. Thousands of children were captured by this murderous method and forcibly taken as agricultural, domestic and sex slaves to Arab northern Sudan — where many still languish today. Darfur has also seen many children disappear from both refugee camps and towns subjected to central government attack. They are suspected victims of Arab slave hunters.

But it is not only non-Arab children who are Arab child slave trade victims. An Egyptian newspaper, referring to a 2008 UNICEF report, stated Egyptian children are being bought and sold for about $3,000 for “domestic work and farming, among other things.” This trade in children is so extensive in Egypt, organizations are “employing brokers, and even operating their own web sites.

“Many are also sent to the Gulf States, with orphanages being a major supplier,” the story further reports….

To Our Readers: Feb. 28, 1994 – TIME Feb 28, 1994…
The decision to pursue an in-depth investigation of this subject was prompted by the anti-Semitic and otherwise racist speech that Farrakhan’s aide, Khallid Muhammad, gave at Kean College in New Jersey. The story was newsworthy in large part because it came just as some mainstream black groups were attempting to form a constructive alliance with Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. News of the speech loosed a flash flood of reportage and commentary on the subject, and at that time we began the kind of weeks-long investigation a cover story like this one requires. At the same time, we published an article on one telling aspect of the larger story: the fact that some black leaders were offended when whites called on them to denounce racism in other black leaders…

June 13, 1994 | By Ivan Penn | Sun Staff Writer
A boisterous group of 60 people, marching and waving picket signs, voiced its opposition yesterday to the NAACP for inviting Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan to its summit of African-American community leaders.

Spurred on by Jewish activists and a former NAACP assistant director, the crowd chanted slogans, including “Don’t embrace the racist; Farrakhan is a racist,” outside the headquarters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

ADC Anti Defamation Australia Report on Louis Farrakhan [1998]

Louis Farrakhan

And
The Nation of Islam (NOI)

Historical Background

The Nation Of Islam was founded by W D Fahd, who claimed to be a prophet and who held strong anti-white views.

Elijah Muhammad was of the first leaders of the group. He assisted in the development of NOI’s bizarre ideology that black people originated from the Moon whilst whites were the result of a botched experiment by a mad scientist (Searchlight December 1997).

Louis Farrakhan

Louis Farrakhan was previously known as Louis Eugene Walcott.

Joined the Nation of Islam (NOI) in 1955 and by the end of 1960 was a minister at the Nation’s Boston mosque.

Farrakhan was a protege of Malcolm X describing him as “the father he never had”.

However following Malcolm’s departure from NOI Farrakhan said”…Such a man as Malcolm is worthy of death.” According To HQ magazine on the February 21 1965 three NOI gunmen murdered Malcolm X. Furthermore, Farrakhan was allegedly accused by the widow of Malcolm X that he was involved in her husband’s murder.

Farrakhan’s racist comments and ideologies date back to 1972 where he made his anti-Semitic and black separatist views known in a Black Muslim publication, “Muhammed Speaks”.

He claimed that “Since the Jews are in control of the mass media, newspapers, television, radio, we knew then that we could begin to look for a concerted attack on Nation of Islam though the mass media.” (Muhammed Speaks 12 May 1972)

Whites, Jews, Catholics and gays are subject to attack as well as blacks that work within the ‘white system’. At a rally in 1985 Farrakhan decried “…we will tar and feather them” and “We will hang them from the highest limb, we will chop off their heads and roll them down the streets.”

NOI’s Association with Far-Right Groups

NOI’s extremism of views has led to a series of bizarre allegiances with other far right contemporise that included the Klu Klux Klan and neo-Nazi type organisations.

In early 1961 NOI and the KKK had a meeting in Atlanta, Georgia in the US. Both Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm X a NOI leader met KKK dignitaries. The two groups came to the joint opinion that parts of South Carolina and Georgia in the United States should become a black homeland with KKK holding state power. (Searchlight December 1997).

Louis Farrakhan has shared a platform at an NOI meeting with members of the American Nazi Party in full dress regalia seated as honoured guests. The NOI publicly accepted donations from a former KKK leader who went on to lead the White Aryan Resistance.

The NOI also holds affiliation with the far-right National Front in Britain. In 1988 the NOI used the Front to import and distribute NOI’s “The Final Call” in Britain.

NOI’s Racist Publications

The NOI are also stockists of racist literature, including the infamous Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the conspiracy laden The Jews And Their Lies, as well as The Secret relationship between the Blacks and the Jews whose premise is that Jews were solely responsible for the killing of 100,000,000 blacks during the slave trade. The group also publishes the notorious anti-Semitic forgery the Protocols of The Elders Of Zion.

Fundraising

The Nation Of Islam operates numerous security contracts (through its security arm the Fruits of Islam) worth millions of dollars, publishes “The Final Call” as well provides numerous other extremist literature. The groups also sells hair and beauty products and runs chains of health clinics.

What Farrakhan and His Lieutenants Say about:

Narrow-minded, common Jews…The Jews cannot defeat me so I will grind them and crush them into little bits.

– Louis Farrakhan, Flushing New York, May 21, 1998

I called them [Jews] bloodsuckers. I’m not going to change that. Our lessons talk about the bloodsuckers of the poor in the supreme wisdom of the Nation of Islam. It’s that old no-good Jew, that old imposter Jew, that old hook-nose, bagel-eating, lox-eating, Johnny-come-lately perpetrating a fraud, just crawled out of the caves and hills of Europe, so called damn Jew….and I feel everything I’m saying here is kosher.”

-Khalid Abdul Muhammad, Baltimore, MD, February 19, 1994

“Your [whites] history is written in the blood of the human family. It comes out of you like a web comes out of a spider. Murder and lying comes easy for white people….Your history is shedding the blood of all human beings and you came lying to us, deceiving us, then killing us.”

-Louis Farrakhan, Saviour’s Day, February 27, 1994

“There is a little bit of Hitler in all white people.”

-Khalid Abdul Muhammad, NBC’s “Donahue,” May 12, 1994

“Christians preach love but practice hate and tyranny, use God to cover their corrupt and dirty practices.”

-Louis Farrakhan, Northeastern University, April 20, 1985

“The true meaning of Christmas is heathen, vain ignorant, backward white pagan worship and idolatry.”

-Khalid Muhammad, New Haven, CT November 16, 1994

“The Pope is not the Vicar of Christ. The Pope is the representative of the Anti-Christ.”

-Khalid Muhammad, Harlem, NY, May 3, 1994

“They said I called the Pope a ‘no-good cracker’. Did I lie? “

What is the Nation of Islam?
Submitted on 23 March, 2006 – 15:38

How to beat the racists

The Nation of Islam (NoI) was founded in 1930 as a peculiar fusion of Islam and a conservative variant of black nationalism.

The NoI considered whites to be devils and that the answer to American racism was the promotion of black business, racial separation and the creation of a black state.

Black historian Manning Marable describes how the NoI came to be “re-founded” by Louis Farrakhan in 1981:

“[In the 1970s] Most black radicals, influenced heavily by Malcolm X’s public separation from and feud with the Nation in 1964-65, still viewed the organisation with a great deal of scepticism.

“… [Elijah] Muhammad [NoI leader] attempted to establish closer links with the US government and other foreign interests in an effort to resolve his group’s ongoing political and economic troubles. By making peace with Chicago’s political boss, Richard Daley, the Nation was able to eliminate most of the police surveillance and harassment against the sect.

“Imitating the FBI, Nation of Islam members in Philadelphia destroyed that city’s Black Panther Party headquarters in retaliation for the group’s public advocacy of Malcolm X’s ideas.

“In 1972, Muhammad negotiated a $3 million interest-free loan from [Libyan dictator] Colonel Muamar Kadafi which was used to expand Black Muslim enterprises. Despite these gains, the Nation of Islam was still plagued by internal dissension.

“One of the Nation’s most dynamic and powerful ministers, Hamaas Abdul Khaalis (Ernest McGhee) denounced the Nation as a corruption of the true faith, Sunni Islam, in 1972. Khaalis declared that Muhammad was ‘a lying deceiver’ and stated that their leader ‘who inspired former dope addicts and prostitutes to monklike lives of sacrifice, discipline and hard work, was instead stealing his followers’ money and leading them to hell’. For devout defenders of Muhammad, Khaalis’ challenge could not remain unanswered. On 18 January 1973, at least five armed gunmen, all members of the Nation of Islam, entered Khaalis’ Washington, DC, home and butchered five members of his family.

“With Muhammad’s death in 1975, the leadership of the Nation of Islam passed to one of his sons, Wallace. Quickly and efficiently, Wallace Muhammad ‘Malcolmised’ the [sect … a] mixture of racial mythology and religious dogma promulgated by Elijah Muhammad was abandoned in favour of the orthodox teachings of Islam; whites were permitted to attend services and in some instances even joined the group…

“Yet these dramatic changes did not occur without more dissension. Louis Farrakhan, perhaps the most charismatic minister in the Nation after the departure of Malcolm X, had quietly left the Nation by 1978. In February 1981, Farrakhan announced the creation of the ‘old’ NoI under his direction, following the tenets of Elijah Muhammad. Several thousand blacks soon flocked to Farrakhan’s group.” (Race Reform and Rebellion, p 177-8)

The following Farrakhan has built up since 1978 is particularly suprising because of the part he played in the NoI’s feud with Malcolm X. In December 1964, writing as Louis X, Farrakhan wrote, “Malcolm shall not escape… Malcolm is worthy of death.” Malcolm was shot down two months later in February 1965.

In 1994, Malcolm’s widow, Betty Shabazz, was asked on WNBC-TV if she thought Farrakhan had anything to do with her husband’s killing. She answered: “Of course. Yes… Nobody kept it a secret. It was a badge of honour. Everybody talked about it. Yes.”

Moreover, Farrakhan’s NoI has continued Elijah Muhammad’s tradition of links with the fascist right — believing that the Nazis, who also want racial separation, have something in common with the NoI.

In June 1961 a delegation of American Nazi Party members attended the NoI’s convention in Washington DC. In 1962 Nazi Party leader George Lincoln Rockwell, dressed in full Nazi regalia, declared to the NoI Chicago convention: “Elijah Muhammad is to the so-called Negro what Adolf Hitler was to the German people… Heil Hitler!”

Malcolm X, who had been ordered to represent the NoI at a meeting with the fascists in 1961, later wrote to Rockwell, “This is to warn you that I am no longer held in check from fighting white supremacists by Elijah Muhammad’s separatist Black Muslim movement”. (Malcolm Speaks, 1965). In 1964 Malcolm had offered to send people to the Deep South to “give the Ku Klux Klan a taste of their own medicine”.

But in 1985 Farrakhan repeated Elijah Muhammad’s mistakes by allowing Californian Klan leader Tom Metzger to attend an NoI rally in Los Angeles. The NoI accepted a $100 donation from this racist scumbag. Farrakhan has also declared that “Hitler was a very great man” (at a rally for Jesse Jackson, 1984).

The organisation Louis Farrakhan now leads has tacked towards the Democratic mainstream during the 1990s. It remains right-wing, anti-white and anti-Korean (some Korean people run shops in black areas in US cities) .

Farrakhan is anti-abortion, anti-gay and wants to see schools separated by sex. Some of the NoI’s meetings and rallies are closed to women.

The NoI is also profoundly anti-semitic. In the past it has distributed the infamous Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a Russian Tsarist police forgery which claims to show that a Jewish conspiracy exists to control the world. The NoI has its own “Protocols” — The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews claims that: Jews ran the African slave trade; Jews were the major owners of slaves in the US; Jews raped black women; that during Reconstruction, Jews preyed on freed black slaves. Like many anti-semitic texts the NoI claim it is based on the works of “respected Jewish authorities”.

In fact the Secret Relationship is a lying mess in which facts are misrepresented and notorious anti-semites — such as Dostoyevsky — are quoted to prove a point. (In fact Jews were a very small minority of whites in the Deep South and owned, as a proportion, less slaves than other groups of whites.)

Farrakhan believes the Jews control the media and that Judaism is a “dirty religion”.

Farrakhan’s deputy, Khallid Muhammad, called Jews “bloodsuckers of the black nation”.

Speaking in February 1994, Khallid Muhammad said: “God will kill my enemy… that old no-good Jew, that old impostor Jew, that old hooknose, bagel-eating, lox-eating, Johnny-come-lately perpetrating a fraud, just crawled out of the caves and hills of Europe, so-called damn J_w… I will never apologise to this bas_tard — never.”

The NoI and Louis Farrakhan are bad news.

Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam on Slavery in the Sudan
Slavery in the Sudan has come to increasing public attention during the country’s 16 year war waged by the Muslim north against the black Christian south
Despite mounting evidence pointing to the disturbing reality of Black enslavement in the Sudan, Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam maintain ties with Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and leader of Sudan’s ruling party, Hassan al-Turabi. Under this leadership, the country has become a base for Islamic extremist terrorism, and Muslim enslavement of Sudanese Blacks has persisted.
The Minister refuses to condemn the current regime regarding this atrocity occurring in Africa to his fellow Blacks.

What About the Nation of Islam’s Historical Ties to Fascism?
Published: February 23, 1994

It was widely reported when Louis Farrakhan, head of the Nation of Islam, suspended Khalid Abdul Muhammad, who told an audience at Kean College of New Jersey that Jews are bloodsuckers, gays are sissies, and the Pope is a cracker.

Mr. Farrakhan rebuked the manner in which Mr. Muhammad delivered his message, but Mr. Farrakhan reaffirmed the “truths” of that message! Reporters speculate if this is a repudiation of bigotry or not. But they are silent about the history of the Nation of Islam on these subjects.

In the early 1960’s, at a large gathering of the Nation of Islam, the featured speaker was Elijah Muhammad, its leader. But the speaker just before him, addressing Elijah Muhammad’s followers, was George Lincoln Rockwell, leader of the American Nazi Party.

In the early 1960’s Malcolm X, as a Nation of Islam spokesman, mocked the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the civil rights movement. At the height of civil rights protest Malcolm traveled to the South, not to partake in civil rights protest, but to negotiate with leaders of the Ku Klux Klan on how to thwart the struggle for civil rights. This scene is omitted from Spike Lee’s film and from the recent PBS documentary on Malcolm X.

Rev. Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam – PublicEye.org – The …Many of the key elements of a fascist political movement are present in the NOI, including theories of racial nationalism, racial superiority, organic leadership, and the appropriateness of authoritarian measures in support of public safety and security. The Fruit of Islam who surround Farrakhan as bodyguards reflect an attachment to military trappings, and help build a cult of personality around Minister Farrakhan himself. The demagoguery of Farrakhan and some of his key lieutenants periodically strays into scapegoating of Jews as evil conspirators. And if congruence with key elements of fascism is not alone persuasive, consider that members of the Nation of Islam have at times cooperated with white U.S. fascists around a shared interest in racial separatism and racial nationalism… dangerous… are the themes of authoritarianism and racial nationalism which underlie racial organicism. Reed warns that “because of his organization and ideology, however, Farrakhan more than his predecessors throws into relief the dangerous, fascistic presumptions inscribed at the foundation of that model.”

ADVOCATING GENOCIDE

Khalid Abdul Muhammad

In recent years, the words and deeds of Khalid Abdul Muhammad have been the focus of increasing public attention. A former national spokesman for the Nation of Islam (NOI), Muhammad’s outspoken rhetoric is exceedingly confrontational. His supporters seem to view his hateful diatribes as expressions of rage that traditional Black leaders are unable or unwilling to deliver; however, his numerous appearances at universities and rallies have proven to be little more than a platform for his virulent anti-Semitism and racism.

By 1985, Muhammad had become one of Minister Louis Farrakhan’s most trusted advisors in the Nation of Islam. He accompanied Farrakhan on fund-raising trips to Libya, where he became well acquainted with Muammar el-Qaddafi. Muhammad’s dedication to Farrakhan and to the racist message of the NOI eventually secured him the title of national spokesman.

The start of Muhammad’s notoriety was marked by a speech at New Jersey’s Kean College in November 1993. He referred to Jews as “bloodsuckers,” called for the genocide of white people, and demeaned both Pope John Paul II and homosexuals.

Bashir also visited Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi in Tripoli, the capital of Libya. Qaddafi had his own ideas about uniting Arabs and welcomed Bashir. Qaddafi was ready to supply oil, weapons, and tactical support for the Sudanese army. In July 1989, the two leaders signed a Union Treaty calling for a merger of Sudan and Libya. Bashir later praised the treaty as “a first step towards the full unity of the Arab world.”

When Sudan’s war in the south resumed, Libyan pilots flew bombing missions against the SPLA. In return, Bashir allowed Libyan troops to use western Sudan as a base to attack Chad. At the time, Chad was involved in a civil war similar to Sudan’s. In Chad, however, the Christian and animist southerners held power and northern Muslims were the rebels. Qaddafi wanted to overthrow the president of Chad, southerner Hissène Habré, and replace him with a Muslim from northern Chad. In December 1990, the Chadian rebels, with Libyan help, defeated Habré and made Idriss Déby president of Chad.

Blacks, Farrakhan In Dispute Over Slavery In Sudan – Sun Sentinel
Mar 24, 1996 … Farrakhan’s support of the Sudan comes as the Islamic government of Lt. Gen. Omar Ahmed al-Bashir, the current president, is engaged in a civil war that pits the largely Arab Muslim north against the mainly Christian and animist blacks in the country’s south.

In recent years, officials in the United Nations and the U.S. government have accused the Sudanese government of condoning a traffic in human beings.

According to these organizations, Sudanese soldiers and Muslim militias who have been armed by the government have transported captured blacks to the north, where they are used as household slaves.

“It’s war booty,” said Jemera Rone, a field representative for Human Rights Watch/Africa who has visited the Sudan twice in the last three years.

Dafur & Armenian Genocide: PM Erdogan “A Muslim can never commit genocide.”
Tundra Tabloids 9 November 2009

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan: No dhimmi can judge a Muslim.

The Turks still refuse to come to terms with their history of genocide of the Armenian people. Successive Turkish governments were responsible for the state murder of over 2 million Armenians and 300 000 Greeks.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan: “It’s not possible for a Muslim to commit genocide,” he said. “That’s why we are comfortable [with the visit of al-Bashir].”

Turkish PM,Tayyip Erdogan’s, statement is eerily reminiscent of what OIC (Organization of the Islamic Conference) secretary general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu stated to the Tundra Tabloids last year in Helskini about Islamic anti-Semitism:

OIC sec-gen Ihsanoglu

“..you cannot speak about any Muslim, good or bad, as anti-Semitic, this is a theory, this is not the case.”

This is the exact same kind of denial as Recep Tayyip Erdog(an’s, concerning the Armenian genocide by successive Turkish governments, which shows an Islamic supremacist frame of mind. What is most likely, is that these two Turks are exhibiting the same anger and frustration over the fact that non-Muslims (read = Dhimmis) are holding Muslims accountable for their actions, and that, for a Muslim, is something that cannot be allowed under any circumstance. That, more than anything else, including racism and genocide, is what bothers these two Muslim leaders the most.
Sudanese President Bashir’s visit to Turkey in limbo

Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has pushed back his planned visit to Turkey, Turkish aviation officials said on Sunday, adding that the controversial leader canceled his Sunday flight without any explanation.

It was not clear whether al-Bashir will come to Turkey on Monday or Tuesday for a summit of Islamic nations, the officials added, according to a report by the Dog(an news agency.

The statement came hours after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdog(an defended al-Bashir’s visit by saying, “A Muslim can never commit genocide.”

“Those world leaders who criticize us, have they ever visited Darfur? Their information is solely based on what the rapporteurs are reporting. These kinds of moves will not contribute to world peace,” Erdog(an said Sunday in an address to party members.

“It’s not possible for a Muslim to commit genocide,” he said. “That’s why we are comfortable [with the visit of al-Bashir].

Rights group slams arrest of Turkish journalists .
Sunday, 06 March 2011 00:17 Mohideen Mifthah.

ANKARA, March 5, 2011 (AFP) – A human rights group condemnned Saturday the recent arrest of journalists in Turkey and urged the country to show its commitment to press freedom as it seeks European Union membership.
Ten people, most of them well-known journalists, were placed in preventive detention Thursday on suspicion of an alleged plot against the Islamist-rooted government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Those arrested include Ahmet Sik and Nedim Sener, two prominent journalists known for critical reporting on the Turkish criminal justice system and police, Human Rights Watch said.
Sik is co-author of a book about the investigations and trials in the Ergenekon case – named after an organisation allegedly at the centre of a conspiracy. He had been working on a book about the police.
Sener had written a book on the murder of Hrant Dink, a well-known journalist and human rights defender, and the investigation into his killing.
“In the absence of evidence that the police have credible reason to think Ahmet Sik and Nedim Sener are responsible for wrongdoing, their arrests are a disturbing development,” said Emma Sinclair-Webb, Turkey researcher at HRW.
“It raises concerns that what is now under investigation is critical reporting rather than coup plots.”The opposition and a substantial part of the media say the supposed conspiracy, which has led to the incarceration of hundreds of opposition figures since 2007, is a means of stifling all political dissent in Turkey.
After the latest wave of arrests the European Union and the United States expressed concern about press freedom in Turkey.
Most of the journalists detained Thursday are critics of the Turkish government. The law allows them to be questioned for four days before they are taken to court to be freed or charged.
Three other journalists were arrested and charged two weeks ago
In three months time elections are to be held in Turkey at which Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) will seek a third term.
Erdogan refused Friday any government intervention in an “independent judicial system.”Thousands of people, many of them journalists turned out Friday in Istanbul and Ankara to condemn the arrests.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan cut short a trip to Europe to attend the funeral, where a packed crowd outside Fatih Mosque chanted: “Mujahid [fighter for God] Erbakan,” punching the air. Rows of mourners in side streets around the mosque and on the main boulevard knelt to pray.

An irrational, obscene hatred
Jun 7, 2010 … ‘Shut up. Go back to Auschwitz.” That was the response from the “peace flotilla” when Israel broadcast a radio message warning the Turkish flotilla that it was about to enter an area under naval blockade. In another response, someone on board the “humanitarian aid convoy” replied: “We’re helping the Arabs go against the US. Don’t forget 9/11, guys.” After these exchanges, IDF commandos landed on the ships. On the Mavi Marmara they were attacked by pro-Palestinian activists wielding iron bars.

Turkish papers have now published photographs of soldiers bleeding badly as they are assaulted by thugs.

Eventually the commandos shot back in self-defense and nine activists were killed. It was a disaster for Israel and a triumph for those who hate Israel, Jews and the West. Bulent Yildirim, head of the Turkish Islamist organization IHH, which organized the flotilla, exulted in a speech to an audience he called “people of paradise.” “Last night, everything in the world has changed, and everything is progressing toward Islam,” he said.

Eight million foreign workers, mostly from Asian and African countries, work in a real hell there. These workers, making up a third of the population of the country, are tied hand and foot to their employers, deprived of any way to fight back. Slavery may have been officially abolished in Saudi Arabia – in 1962! – but immigrant workers continue to suffer under a form of "extreme exploitation," which is little more than slavery.

UAE: Selling immigrants into sex slavery

— Raed Rafei in Beirut – 2008
She came all the way from Eastern Europe to treat her daughter’s asthma. Instead, once in Dubai, the 27-year-old Moldavian woman found out that she was lured into the city to literally be sold as a sex slave.

Her Ukrainian friend had actually planned to offer her to a local for nearly $8,000.

A few days ago, this case was brought to a court in Dubai, where the 36-year-old Ukrainian broker was charged with sexual exploitation, according to media reports.

But this is likely only the tip of the iceberg of human trafficking to the Persian Gulf.

Many people from poor Asian and East European countries go to the oil-rich region to work as domestic servants, labor workers or secretaries but find themselves actually forced into involuntary servitude and sexual practices, according to human rights organizations.

It’s rather recurrent to hear stories of men and women from these areas bought by pimps and coerced into prostitution until they pay their "debts." The sad reality of sex trafficking is the other side of the coin for a region portrayed as a hub for trade and economic prosperity.

An extensive Feb. 23 report on the topic by Reuters’ Lin Noueihed described one victim’s misery:

Aysha sold her wedding gold to pay traffickers $200 to find her and a cousin jobs in Dubai. A world away from her village in Uzbekistan, she was forced to work in a disco and expected to offer sex. Beaten by her Uzbek boss when she shooed prospective clients away, she and her cousin fled and hid in airport toilets for two days, surviving on tap water.

Some Gulf countries are becoming aware of this problem and have recently drafted stiff laws to combat trade in humans. Last month, in the UAE, officials promised to build shelters for victims of human trafficking.

A lawsuit accusing rulers of the United Arab Emirates of enslaving and forcing tens of thousands of young boys to work under brutal conditions as camel jockeys over the past three decades has been filed in the US.

The civil lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, was filed last week by unnamed parents of boys as young as two years who were allegedly abducted, enslaved and sold to serve as camel jockeys.

Worst Form of Child Labour – United Arab Emirates: Global March …Diplomats and businessmen from the UAE have been caught with slaves they have smuggled into the United States.

Bahrain

Bahrain has announced it will scrap its sponsorship system for foreign workers – a first in a region often criticised by rights groups over the issue.
The system, known as "kafala", is used to monitor the number of foreigners working in Gulf Arab economies, which rely heavily on cheap foreign labour, mostly recruited from countries from the Indian subcontinent.

Bahraini Labour Minister Majeed al-Alawi said the changes would be introduced in August.

Mr Alawi said the main change in the regulations would mean foreign workers would now be directly sponsored by the Labour Authority and would not rely on their employers.

The current system, which is common to all Gulf countries, has long been criticised by human rights groups for placing workers at the mercy of their employers.

Employers usually take employees’ passports when they enter the country and sometimes use possession of the travel documents to extort a large fee before the workers can leave the country.

Overhaul

Gulf governments have historically welcomed immigrant workers on the assumption that nationals will not do many jobs, which they consider to be below them.

Despite this, Majeed al-Alawi told BBC Arabic radio that the new system would form part of a broader initiative to place a ceiling on the number of expatriate workers in Bahrain.

The US State Department in 2008 placed Bahrain in tier two – out of three – of its annual human trafficking report for not fully complying with minimum standards to stop the trafficking of people for forced labour or the sex trade.

Labour ministers of other Gulf countries have agreed that the present sponsorship system needs to be overhauled.

The system means that expatriate workers can enter, work, and leave the host country only with the permission or assistance of their sponsor.
Many sponsors exploit the system to make money.

Since the 1970s, there has been a significant increase in the number of immigrants working in the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council or GCC (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates).

The pattern of immigration has also changed as South and Southeast Asian migrant workers have replaced Arab migrants.

They now constitute as much as 90% of the foreign workforce in some GCC States.

The "kafala" system has become the legal basis for residency and employment.

Migrant workers receive an entry visa and a residence permit only if a GCC citizen or a GCC institution employs them.

Sponsorship requires the sponsor-employer to assume full economic and legal responsibility for the employee during the contract period.

The worker can only work for the sponsor and is entirely dependent on their sponsor to remain in the country.

Vulnerable

In many GCC States, the sponsor is legally able to confiscate the passports of employees until their contract has ended.

Bahrain’s Labour Minister Majeed al-Alawi likened the current system to slavery.

Women employed in domestic service are particularly vulnerable.
If an employee sues their sponsor for violating labour practices, there is generally no form of unemployment protection while the case is pending in the legal system.

And even if the worker wins the case, the usual result is for the sponsor contract to be terminated, meaning that the worker has to leave the country.

While the "kafala" system provides the state with an important means for monitoring labour flow, these policies can infringe the rights of workers as they are often used to deny them justice and basic protection.

This is the system that Bahrain says it is now committed to change.

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa | Architecture review
Many of Dubai’s construction workers live on starvation wages: £120 a month on average for a six-day week, with shifts of up to 12 hours. Housemaids can endure conditions approaching slavery. Laws exist to regulate working conditions and to prevent employers from seizing workers’ passports, but they are not well enforced. Government figures are invariably owners, partners or shareholders in private companies. You only have to travel an hour into the desert to see the construction workers’ shanty towns to get a sense of what life is like for those who are building Dubai’s skyscrapers, but few do.

Construction workers on the Burj Khalifa have rioted on several occasions, including in March 2006, when 2,500 protested at the site, and again in November 2007. A Human Rights Watch survey found a cover-up of deaths from heat, overwork and suicide in the emirate. The Indian consulate recorded 971 deaths of their nationals in 2005, after which they were asked to stop counting.

I noticed in a couple of the threads on slavery in the UAE that people like to point out that slavery exists here, suggesting we are no better on this front.

There is a big difference between hidden slavery rings that operate in secret and regenerate when arrests are made, and a system wherein slaves are used at public events at places such as race tracks.

To compare the two is to blur the lines of culpability to such an extent that there is no right and wrong — or, more accurately, better and worse — as long as there are lawbreakers.

Soyinka Links Darfur Crisis to Arab Racism, Slavery
Written by Evan Mwangi: Afrika News Books and Arts Editor
Wednesday, 25 April 2007
Nigerian author Wole Soyinka has linked the Darfur genocide to the history of Arabs enslaving Negroid Africans in Sudan, the Harvard Crimson has reported.
The first African winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature and a consistent critic of the Sudanese government asked the Arab section of Sudan to confront its enslaving past and acknowledge its current role in the violence in Darfur as racist instead of remaining in a “state of amnesia.”
An articulate intellectual and dramatist, Soyinka delivered the speech “Darfur: Anything to do with Slavery?” to a full house at the Center for Government and International Studies, Harvard University. He addressed the ongoing violence that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of displaced refugees.
Soyinka argued that Arabs played a historic role in the African slave trade, and a feeling of supremacy still prevails among the Janjaweed, a militia terrorizing the Negroid part of the Sudan.
Soyinka said the Janjaweed are “motivated” by a mentality in which they see their victims as slaves. “You destroy a people if you treat them with disdain,” Soyinka is quoted as saying.

The Arab Slaver
Posted by Jeff Morton on Saturday, June 07, 2008 8:19:48 PM My country is called the great Satan by many in the Islamic world. We were once called capitalist pigs or similar metaphors used by much of the communist world. It has been stated by a certain group of people living within America that we have white devils running the establishment. Far to many Black Americans have yet to move beyond the race issue while at the same time (unfortunately) racism is still practiced by just about every group within our borders. I have experienced racism in Asian restaurants. I have had Mexicans say to my face that, “some Blacks are just ignorant!” I have dealt with many Whites who have a sense of entitlement that excuses racism because after all, the “It’s my country mentality” is still pervasive to some. I have dealt with the blatant ignorance of white supremacy as well.
One experience I have yet to have occur of late is a black liberal or black conservative politician or so called black academia mention the historical facts concerning Islamic slavery and how the Arab countries subjugated entire communities or groups of human beings otherwise known as infidels to slavery. This timing is ripe for this discussion.
When I read materials by Cornell West such as, Race Matters” or Jews and Blacks (let the healing begin) or when I read of the latest rant by what I have deemed to be our countries, ‘super idiot’ Al Sharpton, I wonder why Black America cannot move beyond victimization. It is as though we want white people to apologize for slavery and until they do we won’t forgive, ever! Truth be told, what the Arabs perpetrated on the African and continue to do so especially on the black Christian is remarkably never spoken of by Jesse Jackson or any member of the black community. Mauritania: Marginalised Black populations fight against Arabisation

Thursday 8 April 2010 / by Alicia Koch, Patrick K. Johnsson

Hundreds of Black Mauritanian students gathered at the University of Nouakchott Tuesday to express their outrage against what they call a “comprehensive Arabization” of Mauritania. The sit-in follows several demonstrations triggered by speeches, delivered by the Prime Minister and Minister of Culture. The students condemn a move to promote Arabic as a national language.

The atmosphere was tense on Tuesday at the University of Nouakchott. Under heavy police surveillance, Black Mauritanian students gathered, once again, to show their indignation over speeches given by the country’s Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Moulaye Laghdaf and Culture Minister Cissé Mint Boide on March 1, a day set aside for the promotion of the Arabic language.

Strong statements calling for the primacy of the Arabic language in strategic areas including television, education, and administration, while reducing French and other national languages like Fulani, Wolof and Soninke to sheer Vernacular. “Everything is Arabized!”, hurled Yacouba Diakite, secretary general of the National Union of Mauritanian Students (SNEM), as he condemned the Arabic language broadcasts on Mauritanian television. He describes the speeches delivered by the two ministers as discriminatory and “disastrous” as they do not take into account the country’s cultural, ethnic and linguistic diversity.

This latest protest follows an initial demonstration that took place Wednesday, March 24. Mainly represented by members of the SNEM and bilingual clubs of the University of Nouakchott, the protesters hit the streets with two main requests : An apology from the Prime Minister who, by imposing Arabic as the sole administrative instrument of exchange and work, has given rise to a sense of cultural oppression among Black Mauritanians; And the resignation of the Minister of Youth and Culture, who, according Ndiaye Sarr Kane, spokesman for the demonstration, is incapable of representing Mauritania’s multiculturalism. According to her, part of the minister’s speech which read: “The national languages are obstacles to the emergence of the Arabic language,” were shocking.

The demonstration quickly turned violent as Arab students chanting “yes to Arabization!” clashed with the Black Mauritanians. The violence led to the arrest of several students by the police. The number of students arrested range between 4, according to Atlas Vista, and 8, according to RFI. Those arrested were released 24 hours later without being charged.

A multicultural country?

These multiple demonstrations has incurred strong reactions from the prime minister, who remains determined to justify his remarks, in an interview accorded to three journalists from the country’s private media and published on the ruling party’s (l’Union des forces de progress) website.

Interpreting his speech, according to him, requires placing it in its appropriate context. He further explains that the speech was made on the 1st of March, a day commemorated by 22 countries as a day of the Arabic language, following a decision by the Arab League, of which Mauritania has been a member since 1973. He insists that it was not unusual to place the language on a pedestal that day, he however denies denigrating the other national languages, which according to him, remain an integral part of the country. A country he describes as having both strong African and Arab roots.

Analysts believe that this is an essential fight for the Fulani, Wolof, Soninke and other black-skinned groups, who account for about a third of the country’s population, as the Arabic language consolidates the position of the Arab-Berber majority who wield more political and economic power, and who have often been accused of enslaving the minority Black populations. Slavery which is still practiced by the Arab-Berber populations was abolished three times in Mauritania in the last century alone. In 2002, Action for Change (AC), a political party which campaigned for greater rights for blacks and the descendants of slaves, was banned by the government.

Symptomatic of a deep malaise, the question of identity has rocked the Mauritanian landscape since 1966; a year that saw a massive mobilization of Black students in Nouakchott to ask for the suppression of a law that sought to make the use Arabic language in secondary education compulsory. A cultural constraint for the Black minority, natives of the region of the Senegal River Basin, the issue has remained latent for nearly half a century.

[Apr, 2010]
I recently read an article noting that slaves throughout history usually had more economic security and stability than employees of big corporations, in exchange for their labor. Slaves had more security than I have in 2010.

Between 1526 and 1810, Africa sold about 10 million of its people to slavery –many sold their own children.

Europe bought 175,000 slaves
Spanish America bought 1,552,000 slaves
Brazil bought a WHOPPING 3,647,000 slaves!
British Caribbean bought 1,665,000 slaves
British America (no longer exists!) and the United States bought a small sum of 399,000 slaves
French America (no longer exists!) bought 1,600,000 slaves
Dutch America (no longer exists!) bought 500,000
Danish West Indies bought 28,000 slaves, and the number of people sold by Africa to Islam through the Arab slave routes of east Africa is unknown to the West. Islam is forgiven by my observation. Why the preferred treatment?:
According to World History, United States participation was negligible by comparison to the rest of the entire world. Would anyone like differ with history? If so, your argument is one which results from lack of information. Argumentative and overbearing members of our black population should return to the proverbial drawing board and STOP viciously attacking the innocent Southern population. Indeed, we all know the truth about WHO and WHAT countries were involved in flesh traffic, as witnessed by world history.

Here’s an interview with John Alembillah Azuma, author of the most important book Black Americans thinking of converting to Islam will ever read, The Legacy of Arab-Islam in Africa. In the book Azuma proves definitively not only that Arab Muslim enslavement of Blacks is more pernicious than any other slavery in the world (indeed it still goes on today), but that it was in fact viler and more vicious.

Compared to the white washes of Arab racism that most “academics” participate in, Azuma’s book is a breath of fresh air that exposes the ugly truth about Arab Imperialism and its consequences when embedded in a religious community. I’ve blogged about Arab racism toward Blacks leading to murder and genocide, this book is my evidence of that truth.

If you don’t read the book at least watch the interview and learn about the horrors of 1400 years of systematic rape, torture and murder perpetrated on innocent Africans by Arab Imperialists:

Impunity for Past Abuses

Over 100,000 Algerians died during the political strife of the 1990s. Thousands more were “disappeared” by security forces or abducted by armed groups fighting the government, and have never been located, dead or alive. Perpetrators of atrocities during this era continue to enjoy impunity. The legal framework for that impunity is the 2006 Law on Peace and National Reconciliation, which provides an amnesty to security force members for the actions they took in the name of combating terrorism, and to armed group members not implicated in the most heinous acts.

Kabylia is the area whereby the Anti-Berber policies of the colonial French and their local puppets failed most; the Berbers are not a minority either in Algeria or in the other countries of the Atlas.

The Berbers constitute the totality of the local population; some of the Berbers forgot their native tongue, due to the racist, Pan-Arab, colonial policies of the French and the Algerian tyrannies.

In fact, Arabic speaking or Amazigh speaking people in Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya and Mauritania are all Berber.

We Will Islamize America and Arabize Africa – Dr Hassan Abdallah Turabi from Darfur, Sudan

The whittling away of the remains of settler colonialism is proceeding with the increased development of Southern Africa. There is no parallel process of decolonisation in the Afro-Arab Borderlands, rather an internationally co-ordinated aggressive action is underway, to coral the Sudan liberation movements in places such as Darfur and in eastern Sudan, into a peace ‘laager’, with the generous dispensation of petro-dollars.

Given that the area of ‘ambiguous relations’(i.e. the Afro-Arab Borderlands) has been pushed southwards into the Sudan as a result of hundreds of years of interaction, it would be illogical to expect such a process of encroachment to stop from one moment to the other.

The push southwards by the same forces in the West African region, explains the tensions in the Ivory Coast, and the generalised fighting which took place in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Charles Taylor and Foday Sankor were trained in warfare and met in Libya.

It was Turabi, who exercised power in the first half of current Sudan President Bashir’s rule, who pursued a deliberate policy of implanting Islam in north America, whilst Arabization was spearheaded in Africa.

It was Turabi who sent some two thousand post-graduate northern Sudanese students to the US with instructions to form friendships with African Americans. Many of these graduates are now in the public service of Sudan.

As it happens, the Nation of Islam, led by Louis Farrakan in the USA, grouping Black Muslims in north America, has pursued a policy of support for the Khartoum regime, having taken material assistance from Khartoum.

Farrakan has gone so far as to say there is no slavery in Sudan, opposing the Writ issue against Bashir. This has affected African-American understanding and concerns about matters in Sudan. So that those demonstrating in the US against genocide in Darfur have been noticeably white.

In Africa, Arabization proceeds apace and now endangers African overall security. This we see in Somalia, where Sharia Law is being introduced.

Whereas Somalia has long been Islamic, it always was a united entity, before the collapse brought on by its last military ruler Siad Barre. It had one language and an African culture. This is now being changed. It will not stop in Somalia. Arabization will be pushed further south deep into Black Africa.

Arabia has used the so called ‘peace pact’ to its advantage, as a strategy to relentlessly push its influence southwards. It was used effectively by the Lord Resistance Army (LRA).

Like with the UNITA movement of Jonas Savimbi in Angola, the tactical use of the temporary cessation of hostilities, to lull the opposition into a non-combative posture, creating a breathing space, whilst restocking and preparing for the next offensive, is as old as time itself. Such ceasefires do not last.

The attempts by certain quarters to withhold the Writ to be issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Joseph Kony of the LRA, defeated the ends of justice and permitted him to relocate from south Sudan to the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the bloody costs of the Congolese and the people of the Central African Republic.

This relocation needs further investigation. There was a time before 2005 and the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), between the Khartoum government and south Sudan, when Kony lived in Juba, which was then a garrison town controlled by Khartoum, under the protection of the Bashir government in Khartoum. Who is to say that Kony is still not financed by Khartoum?

The relentless push southwards by Arabia has never abated – indeed some westerners would say that the major new pre-occupation in international relations at the turn of the century was the global Jihad, which emerged as a counterpoint to the existence of Israel, spreading outside of the Middle East and African theatres, to terrorise the world.

In Africa, current developments in Somalia are cause for sober reflection. Whereas the Somalis in their majority are Muslims, Somalia was known, before the current difficulties, as an integrated society, with one culture and one language, Somali.

What is unfolding, under the noses of the African Union (AU) Peacekeepers, is the annexation of Somalia into the Arab League, Arabia and the Arabian zone of influence – that is the Arabization of Somalia.

Such annexation is precisely what the south of Sudan fought against for some 39 years.

The question is, will Africa south of the Sahara, on this occasion, yet again, be compliant, watching this process without registering protest?

The current Libyan ‘King of Kings’ of the AU, can hardly be expected to intervene in such an issue, going on his past record of intervention in places such as Tchad and Sudan. The supreme dilemma of Chairman Ping of the AU must be, what to tell the peacekeepers in Somalia, is their mission.

Apart from maintaining the peace, why are the belligerents fighting, why are they (peacekeepers) being attacked? What is the root cause of the conflict in the country? History teaches us that soldiers, at the cost of their lives, always return home to inform what were the stakes in the fighting. Usually this has a radicalising impact on the home population.

The era of denial about the truths of the Borderlands is over. If the lessons were not learnt through the history, the contemporary period is littered with case studies in southern Sudan and Darfur, not to mention northern Tchad (Tibesti), northern Niger, northern Mali, Mauritania and now Somalia. The lid can no longer be kept on. The truth is out.

The inquiries of the ICC into mass murder in the Borderlands creates the precedent, which changes the equation in the area. The attempted elimination of the Fur, the Masalit and the Zaghawa ethnic groups of Darfur is an exercise in ethnic cleansing, in the pursuit of demographic change, in order to Arabize Darfur. A similar project was run in south Sudan for some 39 years and is also now underway, which has received scant attention, in Nubia, northern Sudan, where millions are affected.

In Nubia, the intent of Khartoum is to move the Black Nubians off their lands and to resettle them elsewhere, whilst bringing in millions of Egyptian peasants, for settlement.

The purpose of all these operations is to ultimately make Sudan an Arab country, in terms of its majority population. This initiative has been on, in surges, for a millennium. Having failed to conquer south Sudan, the Arabist/Islamist global force, the same operating in Afghanistan, is moving to annex Somalia.

After Somalia they will move further southwards. Some are saying they will thereafter target central Africa.

In this connection it is worth recounting the words of Joseph Lagu, the south Sudanese Anya-nya leader, on page 339 of his book ‘Sudan odyssey through a state – From ruin to hope’, a 2006 publication. Concerning his interaction with Col Muamar Gaddafi during an official Sudanese visit to Libya in 1975, he recounts:

‘He (Col Gaddafi) told us that other Arab leaders and he would like to develop Southern Sudan, but for that to be possible we should allow the South to be Islamised and Arabised. He said that he did not mean that we leaders should change our religion, for he knew we were already Christians. He said he referred to those without religious affiliation that formed the bulk of the population. He told us that for him to get Arab funds for the development of the South, he needed to tell the Arabs that Southern leaders accepted the Islamisation of the South. He made it clear to us that Arabs consider their aid to other people in that perspective’.

In effect what is being posited here is that there can be no peace in the Borderlands, without a structural change in Afro-Arab relations and that such a realignment must incorporate not only the admission of guilt but also atonement.

There cannot be closure without an opening by the wrong-doer, to enable review and judgement. These are prima facie requirements to begin the Afro-Arab civilisation dialogue. Without atonement space is created for Great Power intervention in the Sahel.

Slavery has existed in all the ancient civilizations of Asia, Africa, Europe and pre-Columbian America. It had been recognized and accepted by the Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

With both Arab and European slavery, Africans were not the machines, but the cogs in a process whose outcome was unknown to them. The denial of their languages and cultures in effect denationalised the Africans, turning them into assimilados and Black Arabs.

However, in Arabia Black Muslims are not accorded the same status as pure Arabs. They are referred, even in Mecca during the Haj, as ‘abed’, meaning slave. Whereas in the western world the human rights concept has made possible an Obama, in Arabia such a phenomenon, of a Black president is inconceivable, such is the level of racism.

In Arabia and amongst Arabs, anti-Black racism is a fact of life, be it in Libya or in Egypt. So that Africans, who, by colonial design, are ruled by Arabs, as is the case in south Sudan and Mauritania, for example, are the subjects of an apartheid system which is even more oppressive, due to Arabia’s lack of enlightenment, than the racist system which was in place in southern Africa.

All need to take cognizance of this fact, especially those concerned with human rights issues. It is only today that the moral guardians, in places such as the Hague, have steered themselves to scrutinize what is an historic reality known by all who live in the Borderlands, that over centuries Africans have been the targets of genocide and slavery in the Borderlands, otherwise known as the ‘killing fields’ for Africans, because historically speaking, that is what the Sahel has been.

It was not a melting pot, but an area of agony, sorrow, distress and death as slave convoys walked northwards to their fate. The truths of this area are now exposed in the mass slaughter perpetrated in south Sudan, Darfur and elsewhere.

Northern Sudanese, who pride themselves as being Arabs, more Arab than the Arabs of the Middle East, are considered second class Arabs in Arabia, because of their dark pigmentation. Northern Sudanese such as President Bashir of Sudan would have been classified, in the Southern African context, as ‘coloureds’. They are a mixture of Arab and African.

Indeed, Bashir is a Falata, that is a northern Sudanese of Nigerian Fulani extraction.

It needs to be said that since the time of the establishment of Islam in Mecca in present day Saudi Arabia, pilgrims from west Africa, particularly from Nigeria, have been passing through northern Sudan on their way to Mecca. Many stayed on in the Holy Lands. Many also settled in northern Sudan.

The historical links between northern Sudan and Nigeria are umbilical, such that Nigeria cannot be indifferent to developments in Sudan in general. It goes further than that. There are ties of kinship between the Hausa/Fulani of Nigeria and the people of Darfur traced back over hundreds of years.

Due to Islam/Arabization and Sudan’s strategic location on the Nile, the northern Sudanese have taken on a persona, especially under the leadership of Bashir’s National Islamic Front (NIF)/National Congress Party (NCP), of being the guardians of Arab hegemony in the eastern Sahel and of being more Arab than the Arabs of the Middle East, despite their second class status in Arabia.

Logically, it could be analysed that the northern Sudanese act as the advance guard, to protect and push forward Arab and Islamic interests into east Africa.

In that cause they have and continue to be the guardians of Arab interests in Africa, on which basis they obtain the support of Arab interests and finance worldwide.

One of the principal executioners in the promotion of this policy is Salah Gosh, Head of Sudan’s National Security and Intelligence Service, who recently told an audience celebrating his promotion to Field Marshal:
‘ We (the government) were Islamic extremist then became moderate and civilized believing in peace and life for everyone.

“However we will revert back ( if the Writ of the ICC is issued against President Bashir ) to how we were if necessary.”

He continued:

‘Anyone who attempts to put his hand to execute (ICC) plans we will cut his hands, head and parts because it is a non-negotiable issue.’

The Sudanese scholar Yusuf Fadl Hassan ‘On the historical roots of Afro-Arab relations’ stated in ‘The Arabs and Africa’ (1985):

‘Slavery is slavery and cannot be beautified by cosmetics. It left an extreme bitterness in the central parts of the [African] continent against the Arab minority which lived on the coast. Because this issue disturbs Afro-Arab relations it should be studied courageously and objectively’.

Arab-led slavery of Africans in the past and in the present goes to the core of the relationship of Africans with Arabs, it is an issue that both Africans and Arabs frequently treat as a matter to be hushed up because of the embarrassing reaction it generates…
