9/11 conspiracy theories rife in Muslim world [WashingtonPost]

ISTANBUL — About a week ago, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad declared to the United Nations that most people in the world believe the United States was behind the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

To many people in the West, the statement was ludicrous, almost laughable if it weren’t so incendiary. And surveys show that a majority of the world does not in fact believe that the U.S. orchestrated the attacks.

However, the belief persists strongly among a minority, even with U.S. allies like Turkey or in the U.S. itself. And it cannot be dismissed because it reflects a gulf in politics and perception, especially between the West and many Muslims.

“That theory might be true,” said Ugur Tezer, a 48-year-old businessman who sells floor tiles in the Turkish capital, Ankara. “When I first heard about the attack I thought, ‘Osama,’ but then I thought the U.S. might have done it to suppress the rise of Muslims.”

Compassion for the United States swept the globe right after the attacks, but conspiracy theories were circulating even then. It wasn’t al-Qaida, they said, but the United States or Israel that downed the towers. Weeks after the strikes, at the United Nations, President George W. Bush urged the world not to tolerate “outrageous conspiracy theories” that deflected blame from the culprits.

However, the subsequent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan provided fodder for the damning claim that the U.S. killed its own citizens, supposedly to justify military action in the Middle East and to protect Israel. A 2006 survey by the Pew Global Attitudes Project found that significant majorities in Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan and Turkey – all among the most moderate nations in the Islamic world – said they did not believe Arabs carried out the attacks.

Two years later, a poll of 17 nations by WorldPublicOpinion.org, an international research project, found majorities in nine of them believed al-Qaida was behind the attacks. However, the U.S. government was blamed by 36 percent of Turks and 27 percent of Palestinians.

Such beliefs have currency even in the United States. In 2006, a Scripps Howard poll of 1,010 Americans found 36 percent thought it somewhat or very likely that U.S. officials either participated in the attacks or took no action to stop them.

Those who say the attacks might have been an “inside job” usually share antipathy toward the U.S. government, and often a maverick sensibility. Besides Ahmadinejad, high-profile doubters include Cuba’s Fidel Castro and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Former Minnesota governor and pro wrestler Jesse Ventura has questioned the official account. Conspiracy theorists have heckled former President Bill Clinton and other prominent Americans during speeches.

Controversy over U.S. actions and policies, including the widely discredited assertions that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, reinforced the perceptions of conspiracy theorists. Iranians dug deeper into history, recalling the U.S.-backed coup in their country in 1953.

“Initially, I was doubtful about the conspiracy theories. But after seeing the events in later years, I don’t have any doubt that it was their own operation to find a pretext to hit Muslim countries,” said Shaikh Mushtaq Ahmed, a 58-year-old operations manager in a bank in Pakistan. “It’s not a strange thing that they staged something like this in their own country to achieve a big objective.”

In March, an editorial in The Washington Post harshly criticized Yukihisa Fujita, a lawmaker with the ruling Democratic Party of Japan, for saying in an interview that some of the Sept. 11 hijackers were alive and that shadowy forces with advance information about the plot played the stock market for profit. Fujita said the article contained factual errors.

The record shows that al-Qaida agents on a suicide mission hijacked four American passenger planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania, killing nearly 3,000 people. The evidence is immense: witness accounts, audio recordings, video and photographic documentation, exhaustive investigations and claims of responsibility by al-Qaida.

Yet every fact and official assertion only feeds into alternative views that become amplified on the Internet, some tinged with anti-Semitism because of the close U.S.-Israeli alliance. They theorize that a knowing U.S. government stood by as the plot unfolded, or that controlled demolitions destroyed the Twin Towers, and the Pentagon was hit by a missile.

“All this, of course, would require hundreds if not thousands of people to be in on the plot. It speaks volumes for the determination to believe something,” said David Aaronovitch, the British author of “Voodoo Histories: the role of Conspiracy Theory in Modern History.”

“This kind of theory really does have a big impact in the Middle East,” he said. “It gets in the way of thinking seriously about the problems in the area and what should be done.”

A U.S. State Department website devotes space to debunking conspiracy theories about Sept. 11, in the apparent belief that the allegations must be addressed forcefully rather than dismissed out of hand as the ruminations of a fringe group.

“Conspiracy theories exist in the realm of myth, where imaginations run wild, fears trump facts, and evidence is ignored. As a superpower, the United States is often cast as a villain in these dramas,” the site says.

Tod Fletcher of Petaluma, California, has worked as an assistant to David Ray Griffin, a retired theology professor, on books that question the Sept. 11 record. He was cautious about the Iranian president’s comments about conspiracy theories, suggesting Ahmadinejad may have been politically motivated by his enmity with the U.S. government.

“It seems like it’s the sort of thing that could lead to further vilification of people who criticize the official account here in the United States,” Fletcher said.

Sitting With Ahmadinejad « Liveshots

>
September 25, 2010 – 10:33 PM | by: Eric Shawn
“A feisty interview,” is what the Associated Press called it.

Boy, was it ever.

Sitting down with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was a provocative, if not unsettling, experience.

At one point he accused me of judging him, and asked if I was representing the U.S. government AND the United Nations Security Council.

And he asserted “it is true you are backed by the Defense Department of the United States.”

I am?

“You are speaking on the part of the U.S. government,” he said.

“No sir,” I answered. “I am a journalist. I am an independent, objective journalist.”

“But right now you said that the U.S. government has condemned Iran, and that the U.N. Security Council has, and do you represent them?”

“No I do not,” I shot back. “I am representing fact.”

I asked him about his controversial comments about 9/11, in which he claimed that most people believe that the American government was actually behind the terrorist attacks. I asked how he could say such “an insane and nutty thing” and insult millions of Americans. Using words like “insane” and “nutty” during an interview is not my typical style. Then again, this was hardly a garden variety interview. And Ahmadinejad certainly has never hesitated to lob the most potentially insulting and incendiary accusations towards our country and head of state. I asked what proof he had for such a claim, and pointed out that Usama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda have publicly taken credit for the attacks. He said he was insulted — ironic, given his own comments — and explained that he was not giving his own opinion, but merely exploring some of the theories that have been raised about 9/11.

“I did not give an opinion of my own,” he said. “I actually suggested that a fact- finding group, a mission be formed to delve into the truth. Do you think that the entire world has to accept what the U.S. government tells them?”

President Ahmadinejad again denied that Iran is trying to develop a nuclear bomb, and I asked why anyone should believe him considering the fact that Iran is violating four United Nations Security Council resolutions.

“We do not insist that you should believe us,” he said. “We’ve never said that you should. You are free not to believe us. But why would you insist on exposing your view on us with resolutions, with force?”

He said he would not meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “Why should I meet him?” he asked. And he denied Iran supports terrorism, saying “from the day American troops and the allied troops entered Iraq and Afghanistan, terrorists have increased one-hundred fold…we are victims of terrorism.”

He often answered questions with questions, and didn’t want to be interrupted, as I repeatedly tried to clarify and challenge some of his assertions. He accused me “of almost arguing” with him. It’s hard not to “almost argue” with someone who looks you straight in the eye and suggests that your government is behind the killing of thousands of its own people. It’s hard not to “almost argue” with someone who would represent himself as a purveyor of peace, even as his regime continually defies Security Council resolutions regarding its disputed nuclear program and condones the stoning of its own people. It’s hard not to “almost argue” with someone who has questioned the Holocaust and has called for wiping Israel off the map.

And at the end of the day, he insists that his message to the “good people of America” is one of peace and good will….. a message, delivered, as all his statements seems to be, with a smile.

The ‘911 Conspiracy Theories’ origin: Iranian backed Arab-Muslim Terrpr Group: Hezbollah – First to come up with a vile theroy on Sep. 17, 2001

9/11 Conspiracy Theories Take Root in Arab/Muslim World Sep 8, 2006

…it was Hezbollah’s television station al-Manar, six days after 9/11, that “reported” that 4,000 Israelis employed at the World Trade Center did not show up for work that day because they were told in advance of the attacks…. And there are plenty of people, for a variety of reasons, who are ready to buy into such a theory — some because they don’t like Israel; some because they don’t like America; some because the preaching of radical Islamic mullahs has brought anti-Semitism into the mosque; some because it is easier to blame the Jew than face up to the challenge of terrorist versions of Islam.

The 9/11 conspiracy theory tells a lot about how these things work. It is exactly because the charge is so absurd and shown to be false that it has such appeal. Who could think that Israel would commit such a heinous act against its main ally in the world? The deviousness and cunning that underlies this perspective is what makes it so alluring. The evil that explains it has no bounds. All, it is said, is done to draw the United States into a war against Islam to serve Zionist ends…

Anger, conspiracy and 9/11 truth Sep 11, 2006 [WND]

… However, where 9/11 conspiracy theorists cross the line into … Let’s bring this down to earth with an illustration: Have you ever wondered why so much of the Arab-Muslim world eagerly believes the wildest, most laughably absurd conspiracy theories?

Right now, for instance, Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV is broadcasting with a straight face the claim that “Zionist squads specializing in car bombs” are terrorizing Iraq. Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s leader, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, insists that all the bombings of Christian churches in Iraq have been the work of the CIA and Mossad.

Al-Manar’s former programming director, Sheikh Nasir al-Akhdar, has said that the station’s goals are to “wage psychological warfare” and “promote the Islamic resistance.” He has further explained that “the ‘war’ with the Zionist enemy continues.
[…]
Al-Manar broadcasts Hezbollah’s messages to an estimated daily audience of 10-15 million viewers. During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan in 2003, Al-Manar aired Ash-Shatat (“the Diaspora”), a 30-part series produced in Syria and based on the anti-Semitic literature the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion.”

Al-Manar also appears to be the source of the conspiracy theory that claimed that 4,000 Israelis were absent from their jobs at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, implying that Israel was responsible for the terrorist attacks of that day. In addition to broadcasting the conspiracy, Al-Manar also posted the story on its Web site, which enables viewers to watch live streaming video of the network. The September 11 conspiracy story was later picked up by extremists around the world.

Al-Manar often airs interviews and speeches, given by Hezbollah leaders, that incite violence. In several addresses aired during a Shi’i festival in February 2006, for example, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah condemned a Danish newspaper that published cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad. Nasrallah urged European parliaments to “draft laws that ban newspapers from insulting the Prophet” and warned, “Today we are protesting…but we are ready to shed our blood.”

On March 24, 2008, Al-Manar broadcasted a speech by Nasrallah to mark the end of the 40-day mourning period for Imad Mughniyah, a Hezbollah military commander killed the previous month. In his speech, Nasrallah stated that “The Zionist entity can be wiped out of existence,” warned of “Zionist-American propaganda” and spoke about the “bloody war of consciousness” in which Israel, helped by some Arabs and Europeans, has “infiltrated” the media. Nasrallah also stated that “Mughniyah will remain the pillar for the resistance in his martyrdom as he was the pillar of the resistance during his life, his jihad and his work. We…will continue to follow his path.”

The U.S. State Department designated Al-Manar as a terrorist entity and added the satellite station to the Terrorism Exclusion List in December 2004. Two years later, the U.S. Treasury Department added Al-Manar, along with its parent company, the Lebanese Media Group, to its Specially Designated Global Terrorist List, which resulted in economic sanctions against the station and made it illegal for any U.S. persons to engage in financial transactions with it. In June 2009, Javed Iqbal and Saleh Elahwal were sentenced in a Manhattan federal court to nearly six years in prison and 17 months in prison, respectively, for distributing broadcasts of Al-Manar in New York and providing material support to Hezbollah.

Several European countries, including France, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, as well as Australia, have also taken measures to block Al-Manar. In March 2005, the broadcasting regulators in the European Union agreed to ban satellite broadcasting of Al-Manar on the basis that the channel carried racist material and incitement. As a result, several satellite service providers, most of them European, dropped Al-Manar, making it unavailable in North and South America, Asia and Australia. Al-Manar, is, however, still available in Europe through Arab satellite companies and its Web site offers English, French and Spanish translations of its material.

Hezbollah’s Nazi roots [National Post]

This is the first Middle East war in which the main threat to Israel comes, not from secular Arab nationalism, but from Islamism.

Both Hezbollah and Hamas draw their main inspiration, armaments and funding from Islamist sources, ranging from the Sunni ideologues of the Muslim Brotherhood to the Shiite demagogues of Iran. What unites them all is a fanatical dedication to the destruction of Israel.

Sounding like a modern-day Hitler, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad this week repeated his call for the “elimination” of Israel, home to six million Jews. Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy army in Lebanon, shares that objective. Its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, has urged the world’s Jews to collect in Israel in order to facilitate the task of exterminating them…

Hezbollah’s Nazi salute evokes memories of Hitler’s support for Arab agitators such as the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and the leaders of a pro-Nazi coup in Iraq. The Nazi legacy also manifests itself in Holocaust denial or revisionism, a Middle Eastern obsession that unites the most extreme Islamists, including Iran’s president, with “moderate” secularists such as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas..

Al-qaeda accuses Iran, Hezbollah for spreading lying “theories” for its “Shiite” political goals

Al-Qaida: Hezbollah started rumor that Israel was behind 9/11 …Apr 23, 2008 …

By The Associated Press
Osama bin Laden’s deputy Al-Zawahri accused Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television yesterday of starting a conspiracy theory that Israel was behind the 2001 suicide airplane attack against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

“The purpose of this lie is clear – [to suggest] there are no heroes among the Sunnis who can hurt America as no else did in history. Iranian media snapped up this lie and repeated it,” he said in a tape posted on an Islamic Web site.

Al Qaida Number 2: Iran Propagated 9/11 Conspiracy Theory [HuffingtonPost]

MAGGIE MICHAEL | April 22, 2008 11:24 AM EST

CAIRO, Egypt — Osama bin Laden’s chief deputy in an audiotape Tuesday accused Shiite Iran of trying to discredit the Sunni al-Qaida terror network by spreading the conspiracy theory that Israel was behind the Sept. 11 attacks.

The comments reflected al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader Ayman al-Zawahri’s increasing criticism of Iran. Al-Zawahri has accused Iran in recent messages of seeking to extend its power in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq and through its Hezbollah allies in Lebanon.

The authenticity of the two-hour audio recording posted on an Islamic Web site could not be independently confirmed. But the voice sounded like past audiotapes from the terror leader, and the posting where it was found bore the logo of Al-Sahab, al-Qaida’s official media arm.

It was the second of two messages answering questions that were posted to Islamic militant Web sites earlier this year.

One of the questioners asked about the theory that has circulated in the Middle East and elsewhere that Israel was behind the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Al-Zawahri accused Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television of starting the rumor.

“The purpose of this lie is clear _ (to suggest) that there are no heroes among the Sunnis who can hurt America as no else did in history. Iranian media snapped up this lie and repeated it,” he said.

“Iran’s aim here is also clear to cover up its involvement with America in invading the homes of Muslims in Afghanistan and Iraq,” he said.

Iran cooperated with the United States in the 2001 U.S. assault on Afghanistan that toppled al-Qaida’s allies, the Taliban.

Answering questions about Iraq in Tuesday’s tape, al-Zawahri said the insurgent umbrella group led by al-Qaida, called the Islamic State of Iraq, is “the primary force opposing the Crusaders and challenging Iranian ambitions” in Iraq, he said, referring to the Americans.

As he often does in his messages, al-Zawahri denounced the “Crusader invasion” of Iraq, but in Tuesday’s tape he paired it with a mention of “Iranian complicity” or “Iranian agents.”

In the latest tape, al-Zawahri was also asked if the terror group had further plans to attack Western countries that participated in the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and subsequent war.

“My answer is: Yes! We think that any country that has joined aggression on Muslims must be deterred,” he replied.

In response to a question signed by the Japanese news agency Kyodo asking if Japan remains a target because it once had troops in Iraq, al-Zawahri said “Japan provided help under the banner of the crusader coalition … therefore it participated in the Crusader campaign against the lands of Islam.”

Japan deployed non-combat troops to southern Iraq in 2003 to carry out reconstruction work. It withdrew its troops from Iraq in 2006 and now conducts airlifts to help supply U.S.-led forces in that country.

Al-Zawahri spoke on a wide range of issues, even global warming, which he said reflected “how criminal, brutal and greedy the Western Crusader world is, with America at the top.”

He predicted that global warming would “make the world more sympathetic to and understanding of the Muslims’ jihad against the aggressor America.”

Asked if there are any women in al-Qaida, the terror leader answered simply: “No.” In a follow-up answer, he said: “There are no women in al-Qaida jihadi group, but the women of the mujahedeen are playing a heroic role in taking care of their houses and sons.”

In several parts of Tuesday’s audio message, Al-Zawahri claimed that the Taliban took over 95 percent of Afghanistan and is sweeping Pakistan as well.

“The Crusaders and their agents in Pakistan and Afghanistan are starting to fall,” he said.

In another answer Tuesday, al-Zawahri said it was against Islamic religious law for any Muslim to live permanently in a Western country because in doing so they would “have permanent stay there under the laws of the infidels.”

Al-Qaida’s media arm, Al-Sahab, announced in December that al-Zawahri would take questions from the public posted on Islamic militant Web sites and would respond “as soon as possible.” Queries were submitted on the main Islamist Web site until the cutoff date of Jan. 16.

On October 22, the ADC’s Committee of Western New York held an event commemorating the Sabra and Shatilla massacres, entitled “Memory Lives, Resistance Persists.” Resistance, a word that ADC has used interchangeably for terrorism in reports about the Middle East conflict, was celebrated on the flyer. A popular Palestinian cartoon character, Handala, is seen writing the Arabic words, “Revolution until victory.”
In addition, the ADC recently decided to commemorate the career of Helen Thomas, a Lebanese American journalist whose career was ended abruptly in June over an anti-Semitic tirade…

On the Palestinian side, abuses against the press tend to be a function of events on the ground. Palestinian security forces have confiscated film from photographers and threatened reporters who have covered stories deemed sensitive. So, too, have Palestinian militants and demonstrators. In a highly publicized incident in 2001, Palestinian security forces harassed and prevented several journalists from covering demonstrations of Palestinians in the West Bank city of Nablus who were celebrating the attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C. In another incident in 2001, a PNA official issued a veiled threat to an Associated Press cameraman who had filmed Palestinians in the West Bank town of Nablus celebrating the September 11 attacks. The official said that the journalist’s safety could not be guaranteed if the footage were aired.

‘Support to our intifada’

Mohammed Zaatari

Daily Star correspondent
Palestinian refugees spilled into the streets of their shantytowns in Lebanon to rejoice at the carnage in New York and Washington on Tuesday, defying their own leadership’s firm condemnation of the apparent terrorist strikes.

Refugees toured the Ain al-Hilweh camp near Sidon, firing their rifles in the air in a noisy display of glee.

“Whoever protects terror should know how to protect himself,” one elderly man said.

Women ululated and bagpipers played patriotic songs as the refugees converged on the vegetable market, the largest square in the camp.
Shopowners handed out sweets as small television sets aired time and again images of the World Trade Center’s twin towers on fire and tumbling down after the attacks.

The cheering grew louder when the television spots shifted to the American capital to show a section of the Pentagon on fire after it had been hit by a third aircraft.

The scenes were similar in the camps of Rashidieh, near Tyre; Bourj al-Barajneh in Beirut; and in the North’s Nahr al-Bared, where Palestinian frustration with American support for Israel during the latest violence has been on the rise.

“What happened to America today vindicates the Palestinians and all those suffering the injustice this big power has been imposing on the world,” said Ain al-Hilweh’s Ahmad Hussein, who is in his late teens.

Fatima Khalil said: “It’s like an earthquake that proves that justice will ultimately triumph. This lends support to our intifada.”

Issam Mohammed, in his early teens, said that he wanted to see President Bush “lying in the basement somewhere, fearful for his life, to understand what the Palestinians are going through day after day.”
Nearby young men and women sang together: “Where to? To Ramallah. Where to?
To Ramallah.”

Rejoicing in the streets of Jenin – Middle East – Salon.com

Rejoicing in the streets of Jenin

While many Palestinians celebrate the attack on the U.S., Yasser Arafat denounces it as “unacceptable” and Israelis mourn.
By Flore de Préneuf JENIN, West Bank — In Jenin, they know a good terrorist attack when they hear about it.

The walls of people’s homes here are covered with posters glorifying Islamic terrorists and Palestinian “martyrs.” The area, in the northern West Bank, has produced more suicide bombers than any other Palestinian town since the beginning of the intifada nearly a year ago. Most recently Jenin operatives lent a hand to the Israeli Arab kamikaze who killed three Israelis and wounded dozens of others at a train station Sunday. Israeli tanks moved in Monday night to seal off the area in an effort to stop local terrorists from carrying out further attacks on Israel.

But Palestinian militants have never achieved terror of the magnitude seen today in the United States.

When young armed Palestinians patrolling the streets of a refugee camp in Jenin heard the news from New York and Washington, they chuckled with glee. One of them thanked God for his mighty revenge against the United States, Israel’s ally and main weapons supplier.

Elsewhere in the West Bank and in Gaza, thousands of Palestinians applauded the devastating blows, cheering openly in the streets and distributing celebratory candy to passersby. Some shouted that they hoped Tel Aviv would be next or vowed to complete what they believe Osama bin Laden has started.

Indeed, people here think Osama bin Laden is a more likely suspect for the attacks than Palestinian groups. The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Damascus-based Marxist organization that initially claimed and then rejected responsibility for the terrorist attacks, has only a tiny following among Palestinians and has little “street credibility.” Of course, there is still no proof that any figure from the Arab world has anything to do with the attack — Oklahoma City, too, was first blamed on Muslim forces — but that didn’t dampen the celebration here.

The loud rejoicing, however, was far from universal. Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat expressed his condolences to President Bush and condemned the crime as “dangerous and unacceptable.” Palestinian legislator and spokeswoman for the Arab League Hanan Ashrawi called it “a horrible act of absolute immorality, viciousness and evil.”

Israelis, for their part, greeted the news with angst and disbelief as if the terror attack had happened on their soil. Many Jews have relatives in the United States. But beyond the family link, there’s a very strong identification with the victims of terrorism, given Israel’s long and tragic experience with suicide bombers, booby-trapped cars and deadly ambushes.

Israelis interviewed on national television also expressed the hope that America would “finally understand” and stop condemning Israel for the protective and retaliatory measures it has taken over the past year in its fight against Palestinian activism. Many hoped that the bond between Israel and the U.S. against evil (widely assumed to be Islamic) will be stronger now that the strikes have brought home the price of fanaticism.

In material terms, Israel’s security was also directly affected by the assaults on New York and Washington. Israel closed its air space to flights from abroad, put its air force on high alert and evacuated its embassy and consulates in the United States. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has offered to send rescue teams to the United States.

Sarah Hall, Suzanne Goldenberg and John Hooper The Guardian, Wednesday 12 September 2001 16.31 BST

Palestinian gunmen at refugee camps in Lebanon fired into the air in celebration yesterday as the rest of the world united in revulsion at the ‘monstrous’ and ‘abhorrent’ attacks in the US. In East Jerusalem, people distributed sweets wrapped in the colours of the Palestinian tricolour and sounded car horns.”

Palestinian Authority celebrates 9/11
Official paper’s cartoons glorify bin Laden, mock U.S. suffering
Posted: September 18, 2007
1:00 am Eastern

On the sixth anniversary of 9/11, the U.S.-backed Palestinian Authority continued its tradition of celebrating the attacks by publishing cartoons in its official daily that glorify Osama Bin Laden and mock American suffering.

Palestinian Media Watch reported a cartoon in Al Hayat Al Jadida – owned by the PA and controlled by the office of President Mahmoud Abbas – showed the al-Qaida leader making the “V” for victory sign with two fingers in the shape of the burning Twin Towers.

The only text on the cartoon is “Exclusive to Al Hayat Al Jadida,” which means it was prepared specifically for the official PA daily, notes PMW.

The Israeli media monitor says the PA’s celebration of 9/11 goes back to the day of the attacks in 2001 when the world was shocked by televised scenes of Palestinians rejoicing in the streets.

A December 2005 poll by the Norwegian Institute for Applied International Studies found 65 percent of Palestinians supported al-Qaida actions in the U.S. and Europe.

Earlier this year, PMW said, a former minister from Abbas’ Fatah party, Abu Ali Shahin, wished al-Qaida success against the U.S. and in its targeting of President Bush.

The Fatah leader said in an interview on official PA TV Jan. 1: “Oh [al-Qaida] brother, leave us and focus on your business. You have Bush! Do to Bush what you want, and we wish you success with Bush, even more. I, Abu Ali Shahin, wish you success with Bush… We are fighting the Americans and hate the Americans more than you!”

PMW pointed out Washington. continues to support politically and financially PA institutions and the PA itself, while ignoring promotion of hatred toward the U.S.

Lesson in hypocrisy Massive overreaction by Americans and their allies over WikiLeaks details

By MICHAEL COREN. QMI Agency

Last Updated: December 4, 2010 2:00am

The WikiLeaks revelations we have been waiting for turned out to be little more than the obvious, the banal, the mildly interesting and the confirmation of what we assumed to be the case in the first place.

We were told intelligence agencies gather information on other countries, that the Americans think Canadians lack self-esteem and are anti-American, that the Europeans can be smug, and Prince Andrew can be slightly rude.

Well I never. What is more interesting about the whole episode is the massive overreaction of the Americans and their allies, and also why a neurotic, sexually confused loner and self-confessed nerd was allowed access to classified information in the U.S. military, when everything about him screamed “untrustworthy, and potential spy.”

Also, why the New York Times, among others, refused to print the climategate leaks as they were “gathered illegally,” but so relished printing the WikiLeaks information.

The answer, of course, is as apparent as a liberal’s hypocrisy. The climategate e-mails showed some of the zealots behind the global warming industry to be dishonest and malicious, and so discredited the left.

The WikiLeaks material embarrasses the military, Washington, and those considered more hawkish.

The crass double standards of the New York Times and their comrades aside, one aspect of the story that deserves more attention is the desire of the King of Saudi Arabia for the West to bomb Iran.

Again, this should come as no surprise to anybody who understands the Middle East but it does confirm the genuine, rather than the Lawrence of Arabia/George Galloway fantasies, about the region.

There is no such thing as Arab brotherhood and Muslim brotherhood, and no concern for the Palestinians beyond how they can be used as a stick to bash the Jews and the West. The most long-lasting and sadistic empire within the Islamic world was the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Ottomans were and are Muslim.

Most of the victims of Muslim terror are other Muslims, and there is no racism like the racism of an Arab Muslim towards a Pakistani Muslim, a Persian Muslim towards an Arab Muslim, and a Turk towards an Arab or a Pakistani. As for Middle Eastern Muslim views on black Muslims, don’t even ask.

We in the non-Islamic world beat ourselves up for being insensitive, when we are models of equality and racial and religious tolerance. The Saudis want nothing more than their Sunni country to be protected against Shiite Iranians, and in this they are joined by the Egyptians, the Jordanians and the Gulf states. The Syrians also detest the Iranians, but they are too geographically close to them to admit this and so play a very careful game.

Informed sources claim the Saudis have already told Israel their air defence systems will be turned off at certain times, and this isn’t so they can do repair work! The Palestinians? Everyone treats them badly, but only Israel is blamed.

WikiLeaks doesn’t really change very much at all, but perhaps it does give us a glimpse into the world behind the screams and banners of the usual protesters and moaners.

Countries, people attacked by the Islamic Republic of Iran around the world (and CAIR’s spin)

October 26, 2010

How many countries did Islamic Republic of Iran attack in the last 30 Years? (Today Oct/25/10 on Fox’s ‘The Factor,’ CAIR’S lies)

Today, Mr. Rehab of CAIR (Council of American Islamic Relation) asked spinned Bill O’reilly “How many countries did Iran attack in the last 30 Years…?”

Action by its government directly and/or via its armed -Hezbollah- wing:

  • 1979, Iran’s Islamic revolutionary guards hijack Americans at the U.S. embassy in Tehran.[1][2]
  • Attacking US Marine Barracks in Oct. 1983, killing 241 Americans and 58 French soldiers.[3][1][4] Marking a milestone in global terror – massacres tactics, with Hezbollah’s introduction of the ‘massive bombing’ by suicide, by the ‘truck bomb.’[5] Under the “spiritual” guidance of Sheik Fadlallah.’[6][7]
  • The 1983 attacks on US and French embassies in Kuwait. Six people (including the bomber) killed, more than 80 injured.[1][8][9] This time, the Iran backed terror group using an alias name “the call.”[10]
  • Hijacking of Kuwaiti airlines in 1984 – flight 221, four passengers are murdered,[11] in 1988 – Flight 422.[12][13]
  • In 1984 Iran attacked Kuwaiti and Saudi oil tankers.[14][15]
  • 1984-6 Kidnap, torture and murder of Lebanese Jews.[27]
  • Bombing of US embassy in Lebanon in April 18, 1983, killing 63.[28][1]
  • Sept. 20, 1984, Hezbollah bombs the U.S. embassy annex in Beirut, killing 24.[29][30]
  • Bombings in Paris, France, in 1985 and 1986, 13 killed, hundreds injured.[12]
  • April 12, 1985 bombing of a restaurant in Madrid, Spain, 18 Spaniards killed, 15 Americans injured, Hezbollah claimed responsibilty under its “Islamic Jihad” alias.[31][32]
  • Hijacking of TWA flight in 1985 en route to Rome from Athens.[33][34] Robert Dean Stethem was brutally beaten by the Hezbollah before being executed.[35]
  • Attacking Israel via Hezbollah and Hamas[36][37] terror “freedom fighting” Jihadi organizations.[38][39][25] More noticeably – Iranian equipped[40] and technoligally supported[41] – missile attacks by the Hezbollah on residents beginning in mid 1993,[42] continuing after the IDF pulled out of Lebanon[43] and in the war of 2006. Hamas’ massacres targeting Israeli civilans have caused great havoc, heavy casualties, especially during the height of the “intifadas,” it rose since 2000.[44] At times the two terror groups joined in attack.[45]
  • Downing of a French airline in October 1989 (Palestinian-Hezbollah linked operation).[46]
  • Unsuccessful attempt to carry out attacks in Cyprus in 1988; a plot, foiled by Spanish police, to carry out attacks against Jewish targets in Europe in 1989; an unsuccessful attempt to detonate a car bomb outside a Jewish community building in Romania in 1992; and a planned 1996 attack, also foiled by police, on an Israeli institution in Paris.[47]
  • 1992 Bombing of Israeli embassy in Argentina. Killed 29.[48][49]
  • 1994 Bombing of AMIA Jewish community building in Argentina, killed 85 and wounded 300, both, Iran and Hezbollah were charged.[50][51]
  • July 19, 1994 bombing of Panamanian airline. Kills everyone (21) on board.[52][53]
  • July 26, 1994, Israeli embassy bombing in London, injuring 14.[54]
  • 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, 19 American servicemen killed, over 500 people injured in the apartment complex. Iran is linked.[55][31]
  • Killing of many American and British soldiers in Iraq (its trainers and weapons found there).[56][57][58] Dating at least since November 24, 2003 as reported then by the New York Times.[59] The Iranian/Hezbollah involvement includes training Iraqis how to kidnap Americans.[60][61]
  • Killing of many of US, NATO soldiers in Afghanistan (backing Taliban).[62][63][64]
  • Hezbollah “activities” in Somalia (as accused by United Nations monitors) helping the terrorists Islamists.[65][66]
  • Many (Christian and moderate, pro-western) Lebanese citizens fell victims to the terrorizing Hezbollah mob.[67][68][69]
  • In 2009, Hezbollah plotted attacks on Egyptian targets.[74][75]

Hezbollah’s criminal activities streches from “blood diamonds” in Africa to Latin Amerca’s drug trafficking.

I’d say that attacking: US, France, Kuwait, Britain, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Lebanon, Egypt; its global criminal financial activities; its oppression and constant crimes against humanity on its own -millions of Iranian- citizens, and even moreso on its minorities; threatening ‘Death to US’ – the “big Satan;” planning a nuclear attack for genocide on 6,000,000 Jews in Israel (with an introduction of denying the Holocaust); threatening its immediate neighbours, Europe; Ahmadinejad’s dreaming of becoming the “Mahdi” to dominate the world under a theocratic Islamic totalitarian system run by the mullahs, constitute a serious threat, Don’t you?

“Misunderstood” ISLAMIC GENOCIDE

Slaughter the Jews call ‘misunderstood’
BY JONNY PAUL, JPOST CORRESPONDENT 15/02/2010 02:07

…LONDON – The Oxford student who shouted “slaughter the Jews” in Arabic at Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon during his talk at the university last week says his remark was misunderstood.

Noor Rashid… claimed he used a classical Arabic chant “Khaybar ya Yahod”…

[…] Rashid – who on his Facebook page is a “fan” of Abdul Rahman al-Sudais – the imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca – and veteran anti-Israel activist British MP George Galloway – claimed in the article that “Jew” and “Israel” were interchangeable terms and that he had been misunderstood.

Sudais has publicly prayed to God to “terminate” the Jews, and as a result has been barred from conferences in America, and been refused entry to Canada. In 2002…

The Islamic Republic of Torture, Rape & Murder

February 14, 2010

The Islamic Republic of Torture, Rape & Murder

Amil Imani – 2/5/2010

Rape is a cruel violation of a helpless victim. In addition to the physical torment involved, rape reduces the victim to subhuman status. Most civilized countries sternly legislate against, and prosecute rape and sexual assaults in prison. Under the barbaric rule of the Mullahcracy in Iran, however, sexual assaults have become instruments of policy for extracting false confessions, satisfying the boundless sadisms and sexual perversities of the jailers, punishing the helpless victim and leaving him with a sense of dehumanization.
This shockingly repugnant form of degradation, regrettably, has become widespread in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s prisons particularly in dealing with the young men and women arrested for the “crime” of peacefully demonstrating in the streets to demand accountability from the government for a raft of violations it has committed and continues to commit.
For the past 31-years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been denying and violating a long-suffering people of all its human rights. The regime is guilty of beating, torturing, raping, and killing prisoners of conscience—political, religious, intellectuals, artists and others.
Women, chronically oppressed and denied their basic human and family rights, have been the ones most viciously abused by the Islamic system and its hired plain clothes and Basij members. To maintain its suffocating rule, the regime metes out punishments reminiscent of the worst governments in the annals of human history. Amputation of hands and feet, blinding of eyes, hanging, and stoning victims after perfunctory trials in kangaroo courts without legal representation is common-place under the terror rule of the Islamists.
The regime has violated all norms of international human rights including issuing-very harsh penalties for even “victimless crimes” like fornication, expressing dissenting views in public places, homosexuality, apostasy, and for women who do not wear the hejab in accordance with the dictates of regime’s morality police.
The record of the regime is replete with instances of child executions, restrictions on freedom of speech and the press, the imprisonment of journalists, and discrimination against women in general, and the persecution of religious minorities with a particular systematic program of genocide against the Baha’is and the Baha’i religion. The regime has ruled over a peaceful people with an iron fist while committing some of the most heinous of crimes .
After enduring more than three decades of the Islamic regime, the great majority of the Iranian people decided to cast their ballots in last year’s presidential elections in the hope of affecting change in the system. The Islamic government completely accustomed to doing whatever it wishes and ignoring the people, stole the election and declared the incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the winner. The blatant violation of this basic right to vote infuriated the long-suffering masses who poured into the streets by the millions, demanding their votes be honored. The response of the regime was to beat the demonstrators, arresting many and subjecting a great number to a raft of harsh treatments in prisons.
In a letter addressed to Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the former president and the current head of the powerful Assembly of Experts, Hojat-ol-eslam Mehdi Karroubi, a former speaker of the Majlis (Parliament) and a reformist candidate in the last year’s presidential elections, demanded an immediate investigation into the reports that a number of detainees had been raped during the illegal incarceration.
Mr. Karroubi wrote, “Some of those arrested [as a result] of the unrest claim that detained girls have been sexually assaulted with… brutality.”
“The young men in detention were also sexually assaulted in such a way that some are now suffering from depression and other physical and psychological problems, and are incapable of even leaving their homes,” he added. “A number of detainees have stated that some female detainees were so severely raped that their genitals were damaged. Others savagely raped young boys so that they suffer from all sorts of depression and serious physical and mental damage,” Karroubi said in a letter.
Human Rights Watch also has documented cases of sexual assault in the Islamic republic prisons on individuals arrested since the fraudulent June 12, 2009 presidential election. In the most recent case, the medical examiner’s office confirmed the injuries suffered in prison by Ebrahim Mehtari, a young activist, resulted from torture and mistreatment consistent with his allegations of sexual abuse. But the Judiciary authorities refused to conduct further inquiries and instead threatened Mehtari and his family with severe repercussions if they ever spoke up regarding the sexual abuse. Mr. Mehtari is living outside of Iran now.
Another young activist, 24-year old Ebrahim Sharifi, is a very brave young man who was arrested on June 23, after the fraudulent presidential elections in Iran, told Human Rights Watch that he had been raped in detention while he was handcuffed, blindfolded and his feet were tied, and that he had attempted suicide several times after his release. He said that judiciary officials had refused to accept his complaint and told him that if he spoke out about his case his family would be in danger.
The third case involved is Maryam Sabri, a 21-year old girl, who was arrested on July 30th during the commemoration of the 40th day after the killing of Neda Agha Sultan- whose shooting death during a demonstration shocked the entire world. Sabri was arrested after her photo appeared on a website connected to the IRGC that posted photos of protesters and asked people to identify the people in the pictures so that they could be arrested. Before she was released on August 12, Sabri says, she was raped four times by the jailers.
“On August 9, in a letter published in the Etemad Melli paper, the reformist presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi wrote that some detained individuals stated that some authorities have raped detained women with such force, they have sustained injuries and tears in to their reproductive system.”
In another high profile case, a 19-year old woman Taraneh Mousavi was not shot with a single bullet to her chest as was the case with Neda Agha Sultan. There were no bystanders in the dungeon with a cell phone to capture the prolonged torture, rape, and sodomy of this teen-ager.
According to reports, as well as a speech on the floor of the US House of representatives from Congressman Thaddeus McCotter, on June 28, 2009, Taraneh Mousavi, a young Iranian woman, was literally scooped off the streets without any provocation on her part and with no arrest warrant. She was taken to one of the regime’s torture chambers where she was repeatedly brutalized, raped, and sodomized by the supreme leader, Ali Khameni’s agents.
Near death from repeated beating, raping and sodomizing, the fragile young woman, bleeding profusely from her rectum and womb, was transferred to a hospital in Karaj near Tehran. Eventually, an anonymous person notified Taraneh’s family that she had had an “accident” and had been taken to the hospital.
The devastated family rushed to the hospital only to find no trace of their beloved daughter because Khameni’s foot-soldiers decided to eliminate all traces of their savagery. They decided to remove the dying woman from the hospital before the family’s arrival, burned her beyond recognition and dumped her charred remains on the side of the road.
Like Neda, another young woman whose chest was ripped by the bullet of a murdering Basij member as she peacefully walked along with a throng of peaceful demonstrators, Taraneh’s tragedy gives a glimpse of the true face of Islamic fascism and its brutality. What has been done to the Taranehs and Nedas of Iran shall remain as eternal testaments to the depravity of the Islamic regime and the horrors it has visited on innocent people. And these young victims of the regime’s tyranny are by no means isolated cases. Tragically, women as a gender bear the brunt of Islamic misogyny. Women are systematically exploited, maltreated and denied from their God-given rights.
A regime that subjects its own people to boundless viciousness is showing the world its willingness to commit any crime to intimidate others and to undertake any action that would keep it in power. The Islamic Republic of Iran represents devastation and death if not immediately disempowered by all people and nations that value the Universal Human Rights for all. It is timely to bring to mind the warning of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. The Islamic Republic of Iran is indeed a miscarriage of justice, a cruel repressive rule, and an imminent threat not only to Iranians but to the world at large.

What a world:: Racist Arabs & Islamic bigots call the victims of their racism – “racists”

What a world:: Racist Arabs & Islamic bigots call the victims of their racism – “racists”

Forget the fact that Israel is multi-racial for all colors from the whitest of white to the darkest of black, whereas Arab countries (including “Palestinian” authorities”) asides from oppressing all non-Arab minorities, are almost entirely “judenrein”, but in democratic Israel, an Arab can get the highest office!

But the brazenness of Arab racism not only fails to admit of it’s racist war on Jews/Israel since the 1920’s, but it brands Israel’s defense FROM it as “racist”.

[Racism of] Killing Jews in Israel
a young Israeli student at Hebron University was gunned down while jogging through a mixed neighborhood of Jews and Arabs. The al Aqsa Brigade, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yassir Arafat’s Fatah movement, joyously claimed credit for the killing of yet another innocent Jew. When it was later learned that the jogger was an Arab-Israeli and not a Jew, al Aqsa quickly apologized to the family, calling it an accident. But the killing of the innocent young jogger was not an accident; the murderer had deliberately taken aim at his head and midsection, intending to end his life. The only thing accidental about the murder was the religion of the victim. The al Aqsa Brigade had sent the assassin to murder a Jew – any Jew, so long as he was a Jew.

This is racism, pure and simple. And despite efforts by supporters of Palestinian terrorism to justify the murder of innocent civilians as national liberationor by any other euphemism, this case proves that the Palestinian terrorists targeting of Jews and only Jews – as many as possible – is little different in intent than other forms of lethal or exterminatory anti-Jewish murders (I dont use the term anti-Semitic only because some Arabs claim that because they too are Semites, they cant be anti-Semitic). Obviously the numbers are different, because Israel is capable of defending its Jewish citizens, but if it were not, the goal of Palestinian terrorist groups would not be very different from that of previous groups intent on murdering as many Jews as possible.

If justifying the murder of innocents because they belong to a certain hated group is not abject racism, I’d like to know what is.

Germany tells Islamic Hitler Ahmadinejad (in Iran): the Holocaust is a historical fact & its unparalleled crime on the 6,000,000 Jews

Ex-German chancellor, in Iran, says “Holocaust a fact”
Feb 21, 2009
TEHRAN, Feb 21 (Reuters) – Visiting former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder criticised on Saturday Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for casting doubt over the Holocaust, saying the slaughter of 6 million Jews by Nazis was a fact.
Since coming to power in 2005, Ahmadinejad has provoked international condemnation for saying the Holocaust was a “myth” and calling Israel a “tumour” in the Middle East.
“The Holocaust is a historic fact and there is no sense in denying this unparalleled crime,” Schroeder told the Iranian Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
“Iran needs to take responsibility and respect international rules, if it wants to be taken seriously as a regional power.”
Schroeder, due to meet Ahmadinejad in Tehran later on Saturday, also criticised the hardline leader for his views on Israel which Iran has refused to recognise since its 1979 Islamic revolution.
