150 die in Islamist attacks in Nigeria
10:53 AEST Sun Nov 6 2011
By Aminu Abubakar
Nov 06, 2011

At least 150 people died in a “heinous” wave of gun and bomb attacks in northern Nigeria carried out by the Islamist Boko Haram sect.

President Goodluck Jonathan condemned the assaults which officials said included at least five suicide bomb blasts and “directed security agencies to ensure the arrest of perpetrators of these heinous acts,” said a statement from his spokesman Reuben Abati.

As corpses piled up in the morgue, a rescue agency official, told AFP the body count stood at 150.
“I was involved in the evacuation of corpses to the morgue. I personally counted 150 bodies,” the official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said at the hospital. He said some families had already collected their loved ones for burial, reducing the number to 97 by end of the day.
An AFP reporter counted 97 corpses still in the mortuary.
The Red Cross earlier said the death toll stood at 63, while police spoke of 53, of whom 11 were members of its force.
A member of Nigeria’s Islamist Boko Haram sect on Saturday claimed responsibility.
“We are responsible for the attack in (northeastern) Borno (state) and Damaturu,” Abul Qaqa told an AFP correspondent by phone.
“We will continue attacking federal government formations until security forces stop persecuting our members and vulnerable civilians,” Qaqa warned.
The Friday bomb and gun attacks, targeted police stations, an army base and churches in the cities of Damaturu, Maiduguri and two other small towns.
The military deployed to curb the violence in Maiduguri said there were four suicide bomb attacks in parts of the city, including an army base and on the outskirts of Maiduguri
The attackers bombed their targets then took on the security forces in gun battles in Damaturu.
“It was a suicide bomb attack at one of our buildings. The attacker came in a Honda CRV and rammed into the building and explosives exploded,” Lawal told AFP.
An AFP reporter said no office was still standing at the police HQ which was still smouldering some 24 hours after the attack. Three burnt cars lay in front of the building.
A journalist described scenes of chaos and destruction in Damaturu.
“In fact, Damaturu is looking just like Libya… burnt cars and buildings.”
In a mainly Christian neighbourhood of Damaturu called Jerusalem, six churches were bombed in addition to a police station.
“A police station and a mechanical workshop of the police were attacked. Six churches in the area were also bombed,” said resident Edwin Silas, adding: “The whole city is traumatised.”
The string of attacks came two days ahead of the annual Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice.
Police have been placed on red alert nationwide.
Militants from Boko Haram, whose name means “Western Education Is Sin” in the regional Hausa language, have in the past targeted police and military, community and religious leaders, as well as politicians.
The sect, which wants to see the establishment of an Islamic state in northern Nigeria, staged an uprising which was brutally put down by security forces in 2009.
Nigeria’s more than 160 million people are divided almost in half between Muslims and Christians, living roughly in the north and south of the country respectively. Regions where they overlap are prey to frequent tensions.

Pat Condell: The great Palestinian lie

“This is not about territory, and it certainly isn’t about justice or human rights, because Arab societies don’t know the meaning of those words. It’s about Jew-hatred, as mandated by the Qur’an and as preached in the mosques and taught to the children in Arab countries day in and day out, generation after poisoned generation.”

Jihad Is Not Just Murder, Motive Matters

October 2, 2011

Jihad Is Not Just Murder, Motive Matters
By Judith Miller

Published September 30, 2011
| FoxNews.com

The respected Florida-based Poynter Institute, whose mission is to improve journalism in support of democracy, is trying to help journalists cover Islam more effectively by offering a new on-line course free of charge. So I registered.

And I learned, among other fairly uncontroversial facts about what has been among the world’s fastest growing religions, that while approximately 3,000 people were killed on 9/11, approximately 15,000 people in the U.S. are murdered each year.

[Related Stories
Course Instructs Journalists to Take Note That Jihad ‘Not a Leading Cause of Death’]

I also learned that in most years, “jihad organizations” have accounted for “well under 1 percent” of the half million people who are murdered annually. At its “peak” – of what, Poynter.news University doesn’t tell us– the jihad groups have accounted for under 2 percent of the toll.

Poynter’s professors – Lawrence Pintak and Stephen Franklin, both former foreign correspondents – also tell me that 500,000 individuals die each year from “nutritional deficiencies,” (I suppose in layman’s English, they mean hunger and related causes) “more than 800,000 from malaria, and two million from HIV/AIDS.”

So “jihad is not a leading cause of death in the world,” the course states, “even in the three countries that account for the bulk of the casualties: Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan.”

The professors offer these helpful comparative death tolls to give the 9/11 death toll “some context,” they say. But the implicit message of the course seems obvious enough: 3,000 dead Americans, (and they might have looked up the actual death toll) have been over-covered. Why don’t journalists spend more time covering malaria, or hunger, or especially HIV/AIDS, which the last time I checked, was hardly being ignored by the nation’s media?

For that matter, why aren’t the media investigating bathtub deaths, since according to “Overblown,” John Mueller’s attack on what he regards as the government’s obsessive focus on terrorism, more Americans die in bathtub accidents each year than in terrorist attacks?

The answer should be fairly obvious to such an august institution as Poynter: just as the press covers murders rather than traffic fatalities, which far outnumber killings in America each year, it covers terrorism intensively because motive matters.

“If it bleeds it leads,” may be a rule-of-thumb in journalism, but how and why the person died still determines the importance of the story.

Terrorism is not just run-of-the-mill murder; It attempts to strike at the heart of who and what we are as a nation. And to compare the numbers who died in the deadliest terror strike in our nation’s history with the annual homicides, which occur in all countries and cultures, is to miss the point of what happened in and to America on that fateful day.

Just what kind of journalism is Poynter promoting?

Terrorism was legitimately “the” story of the past decade. And we need only look at today’s newspapers – though no longer on the front pages of most of them – to appreciate the potential threat it still poses, despite America’s impressive gains against this intractable scourge.

As Poynter was recruiting journalism students for its mediocre course on Islam, real journalists were reporting that a “26-year-old man” from “a town west of Boston,” as The New York Times described him in its first graf, was being charged with plotting not only to blow up the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol using remote-controlled aircraft filled with plastic explosives, but also to supply Al Qaeda with detonation devices and weapons to kill American soldiers overseas. The suspect, Rezwan Ferdaus, the Times continues, is “an American citizen” with “a physics degree from Northeastern University in Boston.”

Are those facts about him more important than something that is never reported in the story – the fact that he is a Muslim? The story dances all around religion, of course. It quotes the FBI affidavit as saying that Ferdaus considered Americans “enemies of Allah,” for instance. But nowhere does it say that he is part of a tiny, but growing, worrisome trend among Muslim Americans – those who are being radicalized here at home by real-life and on-line radical Islamist clerics and by myriad other factors that are still poorly understood.

The Poynter course, “Covering Islam in America,” barely mentions the proliferation of such “home-grown” Islamist terrorism in its discussion of important trends and facts about Islam. Its omissions – documented in detail by the conservative Media Research Center – are legion. Among them are the death fatwas issued by militants Muslims against Salman Rushdie (perhaps that is by now too ancient an outrage to include) or the more modern day threats against Kurt Westergaard, whose cartoon about the Muslim prophet Mohammed sparked riots around the world.

Although just this week Saudi women were just promised the right to vote – albeit in a municipal election four years from now – the new course gives short shrift to the Wahabism in the kingdom which makes women unable to make basic decisions about their lives – to travel, work, get educated, or open a business – without the permission of a male guardian. It says nothing, as MRC notes, about the fact that the Saudis executed a Sudanese worker last week for the Islamic crime of “sorcery.”

Its list of individuals and organizations for journalists to consult include such groups as CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which the FBI has shunned for a time, and other dubious, self-appointed “spokespersons” for Islam. While there are excellent individuals in CAIR and at several of the other organizations the course lists, there are also some extremely radical voices. But Poynter’s free, on-line tutorial on Islam offers few such caveats. (You get what you pay for, I suppose.)

The point of the class seems clear, as MRC argues: to downplay “the impact and importance” of “jihad” and the challenge of terrorism and Islamist terrorism, in particular. Those who follow a violent and perverse interpretation of this pillar of Islam may be a tiny minority, but they have changed our nation’s policies, and arguably, its history. But there is no way to know that either from this insipid list of platitudes about one of the world’s largest and most influential monotheisms. This is a course in political correctness for reporters assigned to cover Islam in America who have slept through the past decade. It is unworthy of Poynter.

Poll stunner: These American blacks OK with violent attacks
Shocking study shows high number holding favorable views of al-Qaida

Posted: September 01, 2011

The most dangerous Muslims in America may be black converts to Islam, according to a shocking new poll by the Pew Research Center.

African-American Muslims tend to hold the most violent views among U.S. Muslims surveyed by Pew in a poll released this week.

Fully 28 percent of U.S.-born black Muslim respondents said “suicide bombings and other violence against civilians” can be justified sometimes or at least in rare cases. That compares with 9 percent of foreign-born Muslims who hold the same view.

Pew also found that 11 percent of black Muslims living in the U.S. have a favorable opinion of al-Qaida – more than double the share of U.S. Muslims overall who hold that view. Another 21 percent of black Muslims hold only mildly unfavorable views of the terrorist organization responsible for attacking America 10 years ago; while 56 percent of that segment of the Muslim population hold very unfavorable views.

A popular African-American imam has preached that Islamic law permits Muslims to attack U.S. military targets – including C-130 military transport planes carrying the 82nd Airborne out of Fort Bragg, N.C., according to the best-selling book, “Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America.”

The Muslim cleric, Zaid Shakir, a frequent guest speaker at Council on American-Islamic Relations events, tells his Muslim audiences: “Jihad is physically fighting the enemies of Islam to protect and advance the religion of Islam. This is jihad.”

Acceptable targets of jihad, he says, include U.S. military aircraft.

A dangerous new level
The president is facing a growing terrorist threat
Sep 3rd 2011 | ABUJA | from the print edition

..A SUICIDE-BOMBING on August 26th at the headquarters of the UN in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, which left at least 23 people dead, has sharply raised the stakes in the conflict between the government and its terrorist opponents. It was the first suicide-bombing in Nigeria to target an international body. It has rattled foreign residents. And it has made people question whether President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has a convincing plan to stop such attacks.

The prime suspect is Boko Haram, an extremist Muslim group whose name means “Western education is sinful”. One of its spokesmen told foreign journalists that the action had been carried out to avenge the humiliating treatment of its members by Nigeria’s army and police. Although reluctant to admit to an embarrassing failure of security, Nigerian officials have blamed the sect.

The attack marks a big leap in Boko Haram’s ambitions and suggests it may now be colluding with other more established groups, including al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), which made a similar attack on UN offices in Algeria four years ago. The Nigerian secret police say that a member of Boko Haram recently came back from Somalia to oversee the attack.

Most of the sect’s activities have hitherto been confined to the dusty north-east of Africa’s most populous nation, on the fringe of the Sahara desert. But in recent months it has expanded beyond its home ground. The latest bombing is the second in the capital since June, when the chief of police narrowly avoided being blown up in his headquarters.

In July Mr Jonathan set up a committee to look into the turmoil in the north-east, Boko Haram’s base. But it has been slow to report. Unless the president soon presents a plan of action, Nigerians and foreign investors may lose confidence in his government’s ability to deal with the problem.

It is hard to gauge the extent of Boko Haram’s following. It has no clear structure or evident chain of command. Poverty in the area has helped drive young men into the arms of radical Islam. Fervent religious extremism has encouraged people to assail the government. The security services’ heavy-handed tactics in trying to quash the violence with random arrests, killings and disappearances have fuelled the discontent. Counter-insurgency experts are urging them to be less bellicose.

Al-Qaida not the only U.S. enemy

Nearly 10 years after the 9/11 attacks, many politicians, diplomats, journalists and academics remain reluctant even to name America’s enemies.

To take but one example: John Brennan, head of the White House homeland security office, has argued that America is only “at war with al-Qaida” and its closest affiliates.

I understand the impulse to frame the conflict as narrowly as possible. Brennan and others do not want to reinforce al-Qaida’s message that Muslims from Afghanistan to Iraq to Israel to Paris to Detroit must choose between the umma, the global Islamic community, and the West – to fight for one and against the other.

But can we not say – truthfully and without playing into al-Qaida’s hands – that there are regimes and groups within the Muslim world that are implacably hostile to the West? Can we not say that they subscribe to a belief system called Jihadism? The late Father Richard John Neuhaus defined Jihadism as a religiously inspired ideology built on the teaching “that it is the moral obligation of all Muslims to employ whatever means necessary in order to compel the world’s submission to Islam.”

Spanish Town Becoming “New Mecca of the Most Radical Islamism”
by Soeren Kern
September 1, 2011 at 5:00 am
The municipality of Salt, a town near Barcelona where Muslim immigrants now make up 40% of the population, has approved a one-year ban on the construction of new mosques. It is the first ban of its kind in Spain.

The moratorium follows public outrage over plans to build a massive Salafi mosque that is being financed by Saudi Arabia. Salafism is a branch of revivalist Islam that calls for restoring past Muslim glory by forcibly re-establishing an Islamic empire (Caliphate) across the Middle East, North Africa and parts of Europe such as Spain, which Salafists view as a Muslim state that must be reconquered for Islam.

Iran should pay damages, 9/11 family members say
May 21, 2011 Associated Press

NEW YORK — Lawyers representing 9/11 families are asking a federal judge to find Iran culpable in the Sept. 11 terror attacks, saying new evidence shows Iranian officials had advanced word of the attacks and helped train the hijackers.

The lawyers filed papers Thursday in US District Court in Manhattan saying there is “clear and convincing’’ evidence to conclude default judgment damages should be paid to their plaintiffs — families and personal representatives of some of those killed in the attacks…

The lawyers said Iran and “its proxy terrorist organization,’’ the Lebanese group Hezbollah, entered into a terrorist alliance with Al Qaeda in the early 1990s that continued throughout the preparations for the 2001 attacks.

Court filings advance claim Iran aided 9/11 hijackers
Posted: 05/24/2011 9:01 AM

Lawyers for seven family members of Philadelphia-area victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks filed new documents Thursday in long-running litigation that they say provide clear evidence the government of Iran aided the hijackers.

Included in the court filings are affidavits from 9/11 Commission staff members alleging that the Iran government directly aided the attack by facilitating the movement of 9/11 hijacking team members through Iran.

The 9/11 Commission, in its June 16, 2004, report, said that senior al-Qaeda operatives had long maintained contact with Iranian intelligence officials and that there was “strong evidence” that Iranian border officials had facilitated their passage through the country on their way to Afghanistan. The commission said there was evidence that Iranian government officials had agreed not to stamp the passports of traveling al-Qaeda operatives.

They would have been barred from the United States had their documents shown travel in Iran, which the U.S. government had designated as a state supporter of terrorism. Despite those findings, the commission stopped short of directly implicating Iran and its proxy in southern Lebanon, the militant group Hezbollah, long linked with terrorist attacks around the world, in the attacks.

“Developing evidence of Iran’s involvement with al-Qaeda regarding the events of 9/11 is like putting together a large jigsaw puzzle where many of the parts are missing and never will be found,” said the plaintiffs’ lawyer Thomas E. Mellon Jr. of Doylestown.

But, he added, “over the last nine years, after interviewing dozens of people, reviewing hundreds of documents, and consulting with many experts in the field, we have developed a strong evidentiary case of Iran’s involvement.”

The lawsuit was filed in 2002 in federal District Court in Manhattan. Among the plaintiffs are Ellen Saracini of Bucks County, wife of Victor Saracini, captain of United Flight 175, the second aircraft to hit the World Trade Center, and Fiona Havlish, formerly of Bucks County and now of Boulder, Colo., whose husband also died in the attacks.

Mellon cites affidavits from Janice L. Kephart, a former counsel to the 9/11 Commission who focused on the ways the hijackers evaded border security, and former federal prosecutor Dietrich Snell, also a former 9/11 staff lawyer.

“In sum, it is my expert opinion that there is clear and convincing evidence that Iran and Hezbollah provided material support to al-Qaeda by actively facilitating the travel of eight to 10 of the 9/11 hijackers to Iran and Beirut,” Kephart said…

In spite of the attempts by Lebanon, Syria, and Iran to present Hezbollah as a legitimate resistance movement fighting for the liberation of Israeli occupied territories, Nasrallah himself declared in an interview on December 18, 2001 that “to earn victory we have to fight on all fronts. We have to be global and integral.”

Traces of Hezbollah’s global strategy can even be found in the United States. In July 2000, US federal agents arrested 18 alleged supporters of Hezbollah, suspected of participating in a ring that raised and sent funds and military equipment, including night vision equipment, global positioning devices, mine detection equipment, cellular phones, and blasting equipment, to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Sweden’s Sapo intelligence agency identified 15 people in Sweden who had direct links with al-Qaeda and Hezbollah terrorist organizations. They were suspected of assisting the terrorist organizations with information, communications, and financing. In June 2002, Singapore accused Hezbollah of recruiting Singaporeans in a failed 1990s plot to attack US and Israeli ships in the Singapore Straits.
Various Islamic extremist organizations have firmly established themselves in what is known as the “tri-border area,” where Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay converge, with Hezbollah holding a strong presence. Experts believe that Hezbollah earns substantial income from various illicit activities in the tri-border area, in addition to financial support from the government of Iran and income derived from narcotics trafficking in Lebanon’s Al Beqa’a Valley.

Apart from its international activities, Hezbollah’s stronghold is in Lebanon, where it serves as an Iranian proxy and trains thousands of activists in villages located in the Beqa’a valley, in Beirut, and in southern Lebanon…
Hezbollah managed to rocket Israeli cities throughout the 34-day conflict and, despite its losses, has been able to restore its militant and political standing in Lebanon.

The Iran–Hezbollah–al-Qaeda Connection

Today, Iran is the most active state sponsor of terrorism in the world. Shiite cooperation between Iran and its terrorist proxy Hezbollah dates as far back as 1983, when Hezbollah suicide bombers attacked American and French peacekeeping forces in Lebanon. The cooperation has yet to cease.

The joint Shiite–Sunni venture between Iran, Hezbollah, and al-Qaeda against the West has also been evident on a number of occasions…

Turkish Islamic Apartheid against Greeks

End the illegal Turkish occupation

The 3Rs:
1 Remove all Turkish troops from Cyprus
2 Repatriate all colonists
3 Return all refugees to their homes without preconditions, restrictions or discrimination

In 1974 Turkey invaded Cyprus, illegally dividing the country and committing war crimes and mass human rights abuses. Hundreds of thousands of Greek Cypriots were ethnically cleansed by the Turkish army.

Turkey continues to violate international law and United Nations resolutions that demand the withdrawal of the Turkish army and the right to return for Greek Cypriot refugees.

We are protesting because Turkey still maintains its illegal apartheid regime that racially discrimates against Greek Cypriots by preventing them from returning to their homes and lands.

The Greek Cypriots are the legal owners of 82 percent of land in the occupied north and we want to return. We will never give up our properties to those who seek to profit from their theft and illegal purchase.

Is it right that Turkey, which aspires to join the European Union still maintains military occupation of one third of the Republic of Cyprus, a country which is a full member of the EU?

The human rights of the Cypriots must be restored, so that we may live in a truly reunited Cyprus with the full rights enjoyed by all other EU citizens.

While Turkey continues violating the human rights of EU citizens and destroying the European culture of occupied Cyprus, it is unacceptable that it is allowed to proceed with EU accession negotiations.

We call on your support to put pressure on EU governments to help end the illegal occupation of Cyprus and to end Turkish apartheid in Cyprus.

The 3Rs:
1 Removal of all Turkish troops from Cyprus
2 Repatriation of all colonists
3 Return of all refugees to their homes without preconditions, restrictions or discrimination

The Cyprus Problem
Cyprus maintained that Turkey’s policy was aimed at dividing Cyprus along racial lines. Subsequently, 200,000 Greek-Cypriot swere displaced. […]
In addition, in August and September 2001, the international community had a meeting for the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, declared its universal recognition of “the right of refugees to return voluntarily to their homes and properties in dignity and safety, and urge[d] all States to facilitate such return.”

A viable and just Cyprus settlement cannot be based on a situation of apartheid, under which Cypriots are forcibly segregated on the grounds that Muslims and Christians, people of Turkish origin and people of Greek origin, cannot live together. Such segregation not only contradicts fundamentally Turkey’s own policy of integration with the European Community, but also constitutes a recipe for suspicion, resentment and conflict.

The plan would allow settlement of Greeks in the Turkish zone, but creates an apartheid system of careful quotas of Greek resettlement to maintain a Turkish Muslim majority in the north and links the desire of Greek Cypriots to Btum to their home with Turkey accession into EU: up to 18% of the population could be Greek under the plan..
… Therefore it is no surprise either that the leaders in the Uthmani Khilafah like Sultan Abdul Hameed valued Islam,

Turkish human rights violations in Turkey and Cyprus (2007)

Ismail Cem, Turkey’s Foreign Minister recently complained that the European Union had offered Turkey only a “third class ticket” on the train of accession to the European Union. Others would say that Turkey was extremely fortunate to have even been considered for membership given its appalling tradition of human rights abuses.

For the past two hundred years, Turkey has achieved what is undoubtedly one of the worst human rights records in the world. The Turks have ethnically cleansed or otherwise mistreated ethnic minorities within Turkey and the peoples of neighbouring countries.

These include the Armenians, Bulgarians, Cypriots, Greeks, Kurds, Romanians and the Serbs. Turkey has the unenviable record of having conducted the first genocide of the 20th century when from 1915 to 1918 one and a half million indigenous Armenians were annihilated.

Lately, the Turks have turned their attention to those of their own people who have the courage to speak out against human rights abuses in Turkey.

Killings, disappearances and torture of lawyers, journalists, trade unionists, intellectuals and others remain well documented and are frighteningly commonplace in modern day Turkey.

Amnesty international recently reported that Turkey is the 5th worst country in the world for torture in jails, whilst the US State Department reports that the human rights situation in Turkey continues to deteriorate despite the promises of the Turkish government. In its annual report to Congress on human rights the Clinton administration stated that Turkish security forces committed “serious human rights abuses” during 1997.

Today, Turkey wages a dirty war against the Kurds who are fighting for recognition of their identity, and the right to express their language and culture. Almost 30,000 Kurds, government forces and civilians have been sacrificed. Three million Kurds are now refugees, and 3,000 Kurdish villages have been razed to the ground by Turkish troops.

This policy of human rights violations and ethnic cleansing is just as evident in the occupied north of Cyprus.

Turkey invaded the Republic of Cyprus in 1974 under the most spurious circumstances, causing death, rape, torture and forced displacement of persons, acts which are well documented by the European Court of Human Rights.

Turkey has created an illegal apartheid regime in the occupied area forcibly separating the Greek Cypriots from the Turkish Cypriots, violating a fundamental tenet of the European Union – the principle of free movement.

The few remaining Greek Cypriots enclaved in the occupied north are subject to continuous attack, harassment and intimidation, relying on United Nations protection and hand-outs in order to survive. They are also denied the right to secondary education, in violation of international law and the UN Charter on Human Rights.

No one can treat the hapless Mr Cem or Turkey itself with any credibility for so long as Turkey persists with her atrocious tradition of human rights violations. Sadly history teaches us that Turkey’s policy on human rights has not and is unlikely to change.

Lobby for Cyprus urges the European Union leaders not to pursue a policy of appeasement with Turkey.

New Statesman – The ‘desecration’ of Cyprus
Posted by Brian Coleman – 22 October 2007 11:34

Brian Coleman on Northern Cyprus, the treatment of Orthodox churches and why the government promotes Turkish membership of the EU

The deaths of a couple of dozen Turkish troops in operations against the Kurds and the vote by the Turkish Parliament to in effect invade Northern Iraq to pursue operations against the Kurdish people has focused world attention on a conflict which the modern state of Turkey has pursued for many decades.

Last weekend I was in Cyprus (and yes my expenses were paid by my hosts) to attend events to continue to protest about the Turkish occupation of North Cyprus in particular the beautiful town of Morphu, twinned with my home Borough of Barnet.

Whereas over the last few years the legitimate Republic of Cyprus has made huge economic strides.

On the back of EU membership it operates as a mainstream European Country. The occupied north meanwhile continues to exist in a form of Asiatic poverty with an army of occupation of about 40,000 troops.

Most of the native Cypriots (both Greek and Turkish) have long since given up and abandoned the place to settlers flown in from Anatolia.

The desecration of Orthodox churches and the wholesale stripping and sale abroad of religious icons and archaeological treasures has to be seen to be believed and the ethnic cleansing carried out in the north of this magnificent island is as bad as anything experienced in the former Yugoslavia.

Yet as the new female Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis told me in rather a forceful manner – she has a touch of the Margaret Thatcher about her – there are thousands of Britons buying property illegally confiscated from Cypriots many of whom are my constituents in North London. In fact 95% of sales in the occupied area are to Brits.

Quite why anyone would buy property they have no legal entitlement to and which, when the eventual reunion of Cyprus comes, they may well lose with no compensation at all is beyond me. However the British Government sits back and does little to prevent these sales and the environmental damage to picturesque North Cyprus which the huge building boom is causing.

This last fortnight has also shown that Britain is not alone in playing softball with Turkey; the attitude of President Bush to Congress which was discussing the Armenian genocide was bizarre.

As the Armenian ambassador explained in his excellent piece on the New Statesman website last week, nobody with any common sense denies that the Armenian Genocide of 1915 onwards took place. Yet if the Germans can admit their guilt over the Nazi Holocaust why cannot the Turks do likewise?

The plucky little democratic country of Armenia still has to contend with a blockade by Turkey not to mention the aggression of its neighbour Azerbaijan whose idea of Democracy is to pass the presidency down from father to son.

So why this desire by Britain and the US to butter up Turkey? Gone is the Cold war threat from the Soviet Union and, with the election of President Gul, the Islamists are taking over Turkey anyway. Quite how the Turks imagine they can have any place in the EU whilst maintaining their belligerence on Cyprus, Armenia and towards the Kurds is beyond me.

Exactly why does the British Government continue to promote Turkey’s EU membership? Could it by any chance be to do with Labour’s need of the Muslim vote?

Turkish racist Apartheid against Kurds

THE APARTHEID NATION OF TURKEY

The application of Kurdish politicians Aysel Tuğluk and Ahmet Trk to restore their status as members of parliament was dismissed. Both politicians were subjected to a five-year political ban after the ban of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party in 2009. The Presidency of the Turkey Grand National Assembly (TBMM) rejected the applications of Kurdish politicians Ahmet Trk and Aysel Tuğluk related to restoring their status as members of parliament. Following amendments enforced after the referendum on the constitutional reform package in 2010, the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) had applied to parliament for restoring Trk’s and Tuğluk’s status as MPs. Upon the TBMM’s rejection of the application, lawyer ײztrk Trkdoğan brought the issue before the Constitutional Court on behalf of Trk and Tuğluk. On Thursday (17 March), the High Court dismissed the request “by majority vote”.

In explanation of the phenomenon, Beşikçi makes a comparison between South Africa and Turkey: In South Africa, the Apartheid policy essentially tended to say ‘You blacks do not resemble us, you are bad, and you therefore should not join …But Turkey tells Kurds ‘you are us, You should live with us as Turks, and you must resemble us’. This racism is much more destructive than the ‘you do not resemble us, you then should live separately’ type of racism.

3. Demand a UN investigation of why Turkey is funding terrorist organizations that are involved in attacks on Israel.

4. Fund a Kurdish human-rights NGO in Israel — there are lots of Kurdish Jews who I’m sure would be happy to help — that raises awareness of the plight of Kurds in Turkey. (Short answer: they are treated horribly.) This organization must publicize the apartheid conditions of Kurdish life in Turkey and churn out op-eds, studies, videos, and press releases denouncing Turkey’s brutal and racist treatment of its own minorities.

5. Fund a Turkish-language documentary on the Armenian genocide, upload it to YouTube, and promote it heavily in Turkey. If Erdogan wants to call Israel a criminal and a murderer, there’s no reason why Israel shouldn’t return the favor on this most sensitive of issues.

Turkey’s Anti Alevi apartheid

11/2/10

Alevi Apartheid in Turkey (Academic Research Results)

Today Vatan Daily one of the most popular newspapers of  Turkey published a summary of an academic research about Alevi Apartheid.

Maras Alevi Massacre more than 8000 Alevi civillians killed by sunnis with the help of  sunni state police and army!

Alevi?

Alevism is a religion and there are more than 25 million Alevi citizens living in Turkey. Alevis are tolerated, secularist, peaceful people. Turkey is modern because of Alevi people. The most famous Alevi is Ataturk! Alevis are living in many countries not only in Turkey. Most of the Alevis are Turk but there are also Kurdish, Zaza, Persian, Arabic Alevis.

Alevis are facing with discrimination in Turkey International media and Turkish media is still ignoring Alevis. This research results are shocking. I am not surprised because I am an Alevi and I am facing with these problems too.

Research was made by academician Aykan Erdemir and it took 18 months. Thousands of Alevi people took place in this research. Reserchers talk directly with 258 Alevi and also asked questions to 1672 Alevi online from different cities!

Turkey is managed by sunnis since 1950, now President, Prime minister, ministers are all sunni. There is not even 1 Alevi minister in the AKP government! But 35 to 40 percent of the population of Turkey is Alevi! Also there are no Alevi Governors, 81 of the 81 cities governors are all sunni too. The police force is nearly all sunni too! That means Alevis are not represented in the state and Alevis don’t have the constitutional rights although the Turkish Constitution is clearly rejecting  racism and apartheid!

In every part of the social life the doors are closed to the Alevi individuals. This is not declared openly but this rule is shaping the things as a hidden secret rule! Alevis are tolerated till they have success but if they became an academic rector or became a important high rank army officer sunnis are reacting! the researcher is a sunni but he also realize the ugly truth; if An Alevi is successful the sunni system is starting to oppress this person. You don’t have to be an adult it starts in the primary school! If you are one of the best  students in the school sunni teachers can give you some zeros without any reason! You can be the best student in that class but you are Alevi you should have low points because they don’t want successful Alevis. This is happening even in the best schools of Turkey! Also the situation is same in the universities. If you are a state worker or officer or working for a private company you will also have problems because of being Alevi!

The sunnis will always give the jobs and positions to sunnis you can be the best engineer but you will be discriminated and a sunni will take your position. But if an Alevi decide for a job he/she will give the position to the one who deserves.

Also rich Alevis are  attacked by the sunni state with every legal and illegal way. The sunni state don’t want rich Alevis sunnis are taking our lands our companies by manipulating the laws and government power!

According to research Alevi Apartheid is rising and becoming more systematical day by day and this is the most strict and aggressive apartheid in Europe!  The discrimination against Alevis is in every where state works or private works, education, employment, health, religion, during army duty. Alevi citizens are facing with different procedures  because of their secularist peaceful religion and beliefs!

The different procedures against Alevis includes, hate speech, threatening,  discrimination and even sometimes to death or torture!

Mr. Erdemir described this as  ”The doors are all closed for every level of social life   to Alevi people!” Sadly he is right our struggle starts since child hood of course some Alevi babies are not lucky enough to survive during the sunni attacks. Many Alevi babies were massacred during Alevi Massacres by sunni civilians even some Alevi babies were tortured with their parents by sunni police!

The discrimination against Alevis includes apartments, cemeteries, accommodation sites and streets! In Turkey people are hiding their identities not to be targeted by sunnis! But that doesn’t work for Alevis as hiding himself/herself is very hard mostly impossible for an Alevi. Alevis don’t fast, don’t pray namaz or go to mosque on friday, Alevis are very liberal Alevi women don’t wear Turban or Burka or Niqap! Also the roots of Alevis are more clear due to the ottoman persecutions and Alevi Genocides! Alevi people lived as tribes to protect themselves so Alevi citizens are easy to track from their hometown or home villages.

The media is also controlled by sunnis. Alevis are good at science, art, literature, music most of the positive figures of Turkish history are Alevi people like Ataturk, Rumi, Asık Veysel, Yunus Emre. But no way if you are an Alevi you can not be a journalist, columnist and you can not write about Alevism in a newspaper. The media will only told what the sunni state want to be told about Alevis! Alevis are the owners of Turkish music and literature but there is not even 1 Alevi columnist in the Hurriyet Daily. You are an Alevi   the more you make your job better the more sunnis will hate you! Things are different in Turkey!

The sunni state is building mosques in Alevi villages or Towns! Alevis pray in Cemevi (Alevi Worship House) so building a mosque to Alevi villages is just to make them uncomfortable! The sunni state is sometimes building 2 mosques in the same Alevi village but there are no sunnis living there! Also sunni state is  putting sound systems to play sunni ezan in the Alevi villages which don’t have mosques!  And sunnis made Genocides to Alevis so quess how Alevis are feeling it is like building a nazi center in a Jewish town and playing the nazi songs 5 times a day!

The sunni state is oppressing Alevi villages by governors or by government officers.  Sunni state is not serving Alevi villages water lines, schools, roads, health facilities are just  other ways to oppress Alevis more. The sunni state is not building the roads or water lines or just building it cheaply and when it needs fixing state never fixes it. The sunni state don’t want Alevis to be happy.

Hace Bektas is a Dai (Alevi Leader) who is very important for Alevis.  He is a philosopher who  used to write the basics of the Declaration of Human Rights  centuries ago which is still a part of our religion. His town is holly for Alevis. The AKP government shoot down the electricity of the water pumps in this town! Hacıbektaş Town can not pay the electricity bill because the municipality is nearly having no money from the government. Every year millions of people are visiting this town and paying to the government  for the tickets to enter the Hacıbektaş Cemevi! Alevis have to pay to enter their house and this money is not even used for Alevis!

More than 20 years there is no crime in Hacıbektaş town although sometimes more than  half million people are sleeping in the streets during the festival.  So the jail is closed since 1995! And sunni state is punishing this town can you believe that!   What kind of a state do that!  Crime is very low in the Alevi community because of the Alevi lifestyle!

Also the researchers asked to Alevis to compare their situation with 5 years ago, most of them told that the apartheid is becoming more and more strict and the situation is really awful for Alevis. (No need to make a research everyone knows that Alevis are oppressed more day by day in Turkey)

Also Diyanet (the religion ministry) is using billions of dollars just for sunni religion. The budget of Diyanet minister is more than 8 of other ministers! Alevis give tax but take nothing except torture, assassinations, mass murders, insults…

9 of the every 10 Alevis told that there is religion discrimination against Alevis and religion based discrimination is very common in Turkey
3 of the every 4 Alevi told that he/she was discriminated more than once in a year.

Alevis are also telling that they are facing with gender discrimination, discrimination for being handicapped, for their sexual preferences,  for their ethnicity, for their age,

4 of the every 5 Alevi told that plural discrimination is very common in Turkey which means discrimination is done by groups and in public.

9 of the every 10 Alevis told that they witnessed discrimination of other Alevis in the last 1 year.

Alevis also told that they don’t care about the ethnicity or the life style or the religion of their neighbors and don’t feel disturbed from being neighbors with them.  Roman, Christian, Jewish , Handicapped, homosexual neighbors or   neighbors from different ethnicity is okay for Alevis. ( there were several researches which pointed that half of the citizens in  Turkey don’t want to have Christian or Jewish (non-Muslim)  neighbors. ) The sunni and Alevi citizens are different like back and white.

Also according to research the percentage of  Alevis who have friends from other ethnicities or other religions (non-muslim) or  homosexual friends or Roman friends is very above the Turkey’s general percentage.  That is because of Alevism if you just search Alevism you will see that it is impossible for an Alevi to make discrimination against  other people.

Also between 2002 and 2007 anti-Alevist islamo-fascist AKP government built 3555 sunni mosques! But there were only 179 Alevi Cemevis (Churchs) at the time! Now there are 85,000 mosques in Turkey a mosque for every 210 sunni!   European Union and USA is just ignoring this fascism 25 million Alevi is living in a nazi camp!

Erdogan is telling that he is proud of ”Ebu Suud” who ordered and committed  genocide to Alevis during his rallies!

I can confirm all of these and more so Alevis don’t want to live with sunnis…

The Palestinian Authority’s treatment of the Christians, Jews, women, gays and the refugees of 1948 has been compared by United Nations investigators, human rights groups and critics of Israeli policy to South Africa’s treatment of non-whites during its apartheid era.

Public figures including Khaled Abu Toameh, Victor Davis Hanson, David Bedein and Alan Dershowitz have characterized the Palesitnian suthority of practicing “apartheid.”

Crime of Apartheid

In 1973, the International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid (ICSPCA) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. The ICSPCA defines the crime of apartheidas “inhuman acts committed for the purpose of establishing and maintaining domination by one racial group … over another racial group … and systematically oppressing them.”

In 2002 the crime of apartheid was further defined by Article 7 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Courtas encompassing inhumane acts such as torture, murder, forcible transfer, imprisonment, or persecution of an identifiable group on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious, or other grounds, “committed in the context of an institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination by one racial group over any racial group or groups and committed with the intention of maintaining that regime.”

Apartheid against Christians

It is against the law share the Gospel with a Palestinian.

Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard University charges that “Hamas is notorious for its anti-Christian apartheid.”Under the Hamas-led government, anti=Christian apartheid has included bombings and attacks by gunmen on Christian individuals and institutions.

Journalist Khaled Abu Toameh describes the treatment of Christians living under the Palestinian Authority as a system of “apartheid”.

Apartheid against Ahmadi

Apostasy (conversion form Islam to another religion) is against the law in the Palestinian Authority. Penalties include forcible divorce (dissolution of the marriages of apostates) and the death penalty. Members of the minority Ahmadi Islamic sect are threatened with the death penalty due to court rulings that the sect is heretical.

Believers living in both the Palestinian Authority controlled West Bank and in Hamas controlled Gaza have been stripped of their property by legal action, beaten and had their property destroyed by thugs.

In Hamas-controlled Gaza

Alan Dershowitz accuses the Hamas government of Gaza as practicing “apartheid… against women, gays, Christians.”

Apartheid against Jews

The Palestinian Authority has been accused of being “an apartheid, racist, Palestinian state which openly and proudly states its intention of being Judenrein.”

Alan Dershowitz describes the Palestinian Authority’s policy statements that “‘no Jew’ will ever be allowed to live in a Palestinian state” as “apartheid”. Accusations that “apartheid” exists in “the territories currently occupied by the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority and the Hamas-occupied Gaza Strip” on the gorunds that the “Palestinian Arabs ban all Jews from living amongst them” and “Arabs found to have sold property to Jewish purchasers are summarily executed – often in the public squares and streets of Palestinian Arab settlements. And on the grounds that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has declared that:

“I will never allow a single Israeli to live among us on Palestinian land.”

Since its inception in 1994, the newly constituted Palestinian Authority, created by the PLO, has prepared the rudiments of a Palestinian State, modeled on the rules of Apartheid and institutionalized discrimination:

1. The right of Palestinian Arab refugees and their descendents to return to Arab villages lost in 1948 will be protected by the new Palestinian state.

2. While 20% of Israel’s citizens are Arabs, not one Jew will be allowed to live in a Palestinian State

3. Anyone who sells land to a Jew will be liable to the death penalty in the Palestinian State

4. Those who murder Jews are honored on all official Palestinian media outlets.

5. Palestinian Authority maps prepared for the Palestinian State depict all of Palestine under Palestinian rule

6. PA maps of Jerusalem for the Palestinian State once again delete the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem

7. Recent PA documents claim all of Jerusalem for the future Palestinian State.

8. The right of Jewish access to Jewish holy places is to be denied in the new Palestinian State.

9. The Draft Palestinian State Constitution denies juridical status to any religion except for Islam.

10. No system which protects human rights or civil liberties will exist in a Palestinian State.

If that is not a formula for a totalitarian apartheid state of Palestine, then what is?

Apartheid against Women

Alan Dershowitz and other commentators accuse the Hamas government of Gaza of practicing “apartheid… against women.” Victor Davis Hansonextends this accusatio to the Palestinian-ruled territories generally.

Apartheid against gays

According to the International Lesbian and Gay Association, Palestinian Authority law prohibits sexual relations between two men.

Alan Dershowitz and other commentators accuse the Hamas government of Gaza as practicing “apartheid… against… gays.

Apartheid against the Palestinian refugees of 1948

The Palestinian Authority, most residents of which were residents of Jordan or Egypt until the 1967 War; since it became self-governing under the Oslo Accords of 1993, the Palestinian Authority has been accused of practicing apartheid against the Palestinian refugees of 1948 living under its jurisdiction.

If you want to use the term “apartheid” to characterize some aspect of Middle East politics, then Balata is a good place to apply it. It is the Palestinian Authority’s answer to Soweto. The PA does not permit the children of Balata to go to local schools. It does not permit the people of Balata to build outside the one square kilometer. The people of Balata are prevented from voting in local elections, and the PA provides none of the funds for the necessary infrastructure of the camp — including sewers and roads.

Sol Stern characterizes Balata as a

Quasi-apartheid welfare ghetto. The Palestinian Authority does not consider the residents of Balata citizens of Palestine; they do not vote on municipal issues, and they receive no PA funding for roads or sanitation. The refugee children—though after 60 years, calling young children “refugees” is absurd—go to separate schools run by UNRWA, the UN’s refugee-relief agency. The “refugees” are crammed into an area of approximately one square kilometer, and municipal officials prohibit them from building outside the camp’s official boundaries, making living conditions ever more cramped as the camp’s population grows.

Bashir also visited Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi in Tripoli, the capital of Libya. Qaddafi had his own ideas about uniting Arabs and welcomed Bashir. Qaddafi was ready to supply oil, weapons, and tactical support for the Sudanese army. In July 1989, the two leaders signed a Union Treaty calling for a merger of Sudan and Libya. Bashir later praised the treaty as “a first step towards the full unity of the Arab world.”

When Sudan’s war in the south resumed, Libyan pilots flew bombing missions against the SPLA. In return, Bashir allowed Libyan troops to use western Sudan as a base to attack Chad. At the time, Chad was involved in a civil war similar to Sudan’s. In Chad, however, the Christian and animist southerners held power and northern Muslims were the rebels. Qaddafi wanted to overthrow the president of Chad, southerner Hissène Habré, and replace him with a Muslim from northern Chad. In December 1990, the Chadian rebels, with Libyan help, defeated Habré and made Idriss Déby president of Chad.

Blacks, Farrakhan In Dispute Over Slavery In Sudan – Sun Sentinel
Mar 24, 1996 … Farrakhan’s support of the Sudan comes as the Islamic government of Lt. Gen. Omar Ahmed al-Bashir, the current president, is engaged in a civil war that pits the largely Arab Muslim north against the mainly Christian and animist blacks in the country’s south.

In recent years, officials in the United Nations and the U.S. government have accused the Sudanese government of condoning a traffic in human beings.

According to these organizations, Sudanese soldiers and Muslim militias who have been armed by the government have transported captured blacks to the north, where they are used as household slaves.

“It’s war booty,” said Jemera Rone, a field representative for Human Rights Watch/Africa who has visited the Sudan twice in the last three years.

Dafur & Armenian Genocide: PM Erdogan “A Muslim can never commit genocide.”
Tundra Tabloids 9 November 2009

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan: No dhimmi can judge a Muslim.

The Turks still refuse to come to terms with their history of genocide of the Armenian people. Successive Turkish governments were responsible for the state murder of over 2 million Armenians and 300 000 Greeks.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan: “It’s not possible for a Muslim to commit genocide,” he said. “That’s why we are comfortable [with the visit of al-Bashir].”

Turkish PM,Tayyip Erdogan’s, statement is eerily reminiscent of what OIC (Organization of the Islamic Conference) secretary general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu stated to the Tundra Tabloids last year in Helskini about Islamic anti-Semitism:

OIC sec-gen Ihsanoglu

“..you cannot speak about any Muslim, good or bad, as anti-Semitic, this is a theory, this is not the case.”

This is the exact same kind of denial as Recep Tayyip Erdog(an’s, concerning the Armenian genocide by successive Turkish governments, which shows an Islamic supremacist frame of mind. What is most likely, is that these two Turks are exhibiting the same anger and frustration over the fact that non-Muslims (read = Dhimmis) are holding Muslims accountable for their actions, and that, for a Muslim, is something that cannot be allowed under any circumstance. That, more than anything else, including racism and genocide, is what bothers these two Muslim leaders the most.
Sudanese President Bashir’s visit to Turkey in limbo

Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has pushed back his planned visit to Turkey, Turkish aviation officials said on Sunday, adding that the controversial leader canceled his Sunday flight without any explanation.

It was not clear whether al-Bashir will come to Turkey on Monday or Tuesday for a summit of Islamic nations, the officials added, according to a report by the Dog(an news agency.

The statement came hours after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdog(an defended al-Bashir’s visit by saying, “A Muslim can never commit genocide.”

“Those world leaders who criticize us, have they ever visited Darfur? Their information is solely based on what the rapporteurs are reporting. These kinds of moves will not contribute to world peace,” Erdog(an said Sunday in an address to party members.

“It’s not possible for a Muslim to commit genocide,” he said. “That’s why we are comfortable [with the visit of al-Bashir].

Rights group slams arrest of Turkish journalists .
Sunday, 06 March 2011 00:17 Mohideen Mifthah.

ANKARA, March 5, 2011 (AFP) – A human rights group condemnned Saturday the recent arrest of journalists in Turkey and urged the country to show its commitment to press freedom as it seeks European Union membership.
Ten people, most of them well-known journalists, were placed in preventive detention Thursday on suspicion of an alleged plot against the Islamist-rooted government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Those arrested include Ahmet Sik and Nedim Sener, two prominent journalists known for critical reporting on the Turkish criminal justice system and police, Human Rights Watch said.
Sik is co-author of a book about the investigations and trials in the Ergenekon case – named after an organisation allegedly at the centre of a conspiracy. He had been working on a book about the police.
Sener had written a book on the murder of Hrant Dink, a well-known journalist and human rights defender, and the investigation into his killing.
“In the absence of evidence that the police have credible reason to think Ahmet Sik and Nedim Sener are responsible for wrongdoing, their arrests are a disturbing development,” said Emma Sinclair-Webb, Turkey researcher at HRW.
“It raises concerns that what is now under investigation is critical reporting rather than coup plots.”The opposition and a substantial part of the media say the supposed conspiracy, which has led to the incarceration of hundreds of opposition figures since 2007, is a means of stifling all political dissent in Turkey.
After the latest wave of arrests the European Union and the United States expressed concern about press freedom in Turkey.
Most of the journalists detained Thursday are critics of the Turkish government. The law allows them to be questioned for four days before they are taken to court to be freed or charged.
Three other journalists were arrested and charged two weeks ago
In three months time elections are to be held in Turkey at which Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party (AKP) will seek a third term.
Erdogan refused Friday any government intervention in an “independent judicial system.”Thousands of people, many of them journalists turned out Friday in Istanbul and Ankara to condemn the arrests.

Thousands Mourn Turkish Islamist Leader
Wall Street Journal
[March 1, 2011]
BY MARC CHAMPION
ISTANBUL—Tens of thousands of Turks turned out Tuesday to mourn the death of Necmettin Erbakan, the country’s first Islamist prime minister.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan cut short a trip to Europe to attend the funeral, where a packed crowd outside Fatih Mosque chanted: “Mujahid [fighter for God] Erbakan,” punching the air. Rows of mourners in side streets around the mosque and on the main boulevard knelt to pray.

In a mark of the central role Mr. Erbakan played as lifelong political leader of the country’s religious conservatives, attendees at his burial service in Istanbul ranged from President Abdullah Gul…

An irrational, obscene hatred
Jun 7, 2010 … ‘Shut up. Go back to Auschwitz.” That was the response from the “peace flotilla” when Israel broadcast a radio message warning the Turkish flotilla that it was about to enter an area under naval blockade. In another response, someone on board the “humanitarian aid convoy” replied: “We’re helping the Arabs go against the US. Don’t forget 9/11, guys.” After these exchanges, IDF commandos landed on the ships. On the Mavi Marmara they were attacked by pro-Palestinian activists wielding iron bars.

Turkish papers have now published photographs of soldiers bleeding badly as they are assaulted by thugs.

Eventually the commandos shot back in self-defense and nine activists were killed. It was a disaster for Israel and a triumph for those who hate Israel, Jews and the West. Bulent Yildirim, head of the Turkish Islamist organization IHH, which organized the flotilla, exulted in a speech to an audience he called “people of paradise.” “Last night, everything in the world has changed, and everything is progressing toward Islam,” he said.
