Slavery in the Sudan has come to increasing public attention during the country’s 16 year war waged by the Muslim north against the black Christian south

Despite mounting evidence pointing to the disturbing reality of Black enslavement in the Sudan, Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam maintain ties with Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and leader of Sudan’s ruling party, Hassan al-Turabi. Under this leadership, the country has become a base for Islamic extremist terrorism, and Muslim enslavement of Sudanese Blacks has persisted.

The Minister refuses to condemn the current regime regarding this atrocity occurring in Africa to his fellow Blacks.

CBS ’60 MINUTES’ failes to mention MUSLIM role in Sudan Genocide

August 12, 2008

60 Minutes Fails to Mention Islam’s Central Role in Darfur Genocide
by Andrew Stunich 21 Jul, 2008

Most people have heard Sudan periodically mentioned in the news over the last several years. Many will remember that Osama bin Laden (OBL) made Sudan his base of operations before he relocated to Afghanistan. Sudan was chosen by OBL because it has an Islamic oriented government with whom he had a friendly relationship until he became too much of a liability. That OBL and the Sudanese Government had much in common for several years speaks volumes about the nature of at least northern Sudan.

But Sudan is front page news in the twenty-first century for other reasons far beyond Sudan’s ties to Islamic terrorism. The Sudanese Government and Sudanese Arab militias have been waging a long-term Jihad against the non-Muslim, non-Arab southern Sudanese population for decades. It is a classic Islamic Jihad of the type that has resulted in the slaughter of millions of people over the centuries. The Sudanese Jihad, which most reporters only refer to as “genocide,” has killed an estimated two-million people and rendered countless other people refugees.

It is undisputed that the Sudanese Jihadists have engaged in mass slaughter, gang rape and other terrible atrocities. 60 Minutes reports, for example, that the men in destroyed villages are killed, cut to pieces, and thrown into the water supply in order to contaminate it. One village after another has been completely destroyed by the same combination of terror, slaughter, and expulsion so effectively used by Muhammad to gain mastery of the Arabian Peninsula in the seventh century. The Sudanese Muslims appear to be following Muhammad’s example just as the Qur’an commands.

The Sudanese Jihad is being carried out in an age of communication ease and technological wonder that should make the reporting of the complete story, despite its remote location, quite feasible. But that is not happening. It is not happening because telling the world that a modern Jihad has been ongoing for years which has resulted in mass slaughter, rape and genocide does not fit the world view of the mainstream media.

The sad and disturbing reality that the media and academia are going to whitewash yet another Islam inspired atrocity struck me as I watched 60 Minutes air its July 20, 2008 story about the Darfur region of Sudan. I had eagerly awaited the segment, but had a nagging fear that it might be less than forthright about the relationship of the conflict to clear Islamic doctrine. (Please see my essays entitled “Islam Is It a Religion of Peace,” “Internal Culture War and Self-hatred in the West Allow Islamic Inroads” and “Islam’s Victims Deserve Better Than False Preaching ‘Islam is a Religion of Peace'”)

My fears were more than well justified. While I had expected some mention of Islam as a contributing factor, I assumed that 60 Minutes would make the usual false claim that the Jihadists had simply “hijacked a peaceful religion.” However, 60 Minutes exceeded my expectations. Its story about Darfur was nothing less than an Orwellian cleansing of any relationship between Islam and the atrocities that was so thorough that even I was surprised and I have come to expect less than accurate news reporting by the news media.

I was disturbed as I listened to the 60 Minutes story unfold. The cause of the conflict was attributed to genocide resulting from “Arab racism.” The words Islam and Muslim(s) were never mentioned even though the conflict patently has its genesis in Islamic doctrine and the northern Muslim southern non-Muslim divide.

The overwhelming majority of people in northern Sudan, which includes the capital city of Khartoum, are Arab Muslims, but they are Arab in the sense that they speak Arabic, at least a unique form of it, and no doubt have some mixed Arab ancestors even though appearance-wise they often look quite similar to the southern Sudanese. Conversely, the southern Sudanese are non-Muslim, non-Arabs who mainly practice Christianity or Animism. The CIA World Factbook lists the population breakdown as follows: “Sunni Muslim 70% (in north), Christian 5% (mostly in south and Khartoum), indigenous beliefs 25%.”

The 60 Minutes story did do a good job of describing the horrific reality of the “genocide” albeit stripped of its connection to Islam. A fitting analogy was made between “Nazi death camps” and the “death villages” in southern Sudan. 60 Minutes aired footage of destroyed villages and starving children. The story also acknowledged that the southern Sudanese are targets because “they are not Arabs.” That is true enough, but the story does not explain that the significance of not being Arab is that they are not Muslim which I found quite hypocritical given that the mainstream media and academia generally like to praise Islam as having allegedly eliminated racism. 60 Minutes also placed some blame on Sudan’s Muslim dictator al-Bashir, but never mentioned that he is also a Muslim.

60 Minutes managed to implausibly place some blame on the Bush Administration suggesting that it is soft on Sudan because it wants help with intelligence on OBL. 60 Minutes claims that our (U.S.) relationship with Sudan is “complicated” because of the prior OBL connection to Sudan.

It amazes me that Islam evaded responsibility for its clear relationship to the genocide in Darfur while 60 Minutes took a cheap shot at the Bush Administration. It is also frightening. It makes me fear that those of us that have realized just how deadly of a religion Islam is will never be able to educate the vast majority of people that have been deceived as to the true nature of Islam. If the news media can whitewash Islam’s involvement in a long-term genocide that is occurring in a country whose national anthem begins with the words “[w]e are the army of God . . .” and wherein the Muslim Jihadists yell “Allah Akbar” as they attack, slaughter and rape non-Muslims, then it can get away with convincing the masses of anything.

With so many victims of Islam around the World, it is cruel to let anyone get away with doing what 60 minutes has done. A false public perception of Islam guarantees that Islam will create new victims into perpetuity. It is also important that we all know the truth so that we can properly exercise our democratic rights. It is ultimately the will of the majority (at least the majority of those who vote) that determines the long-term direction of a democratic society and if we are misinformed our votes will be equally misinformed and misguided.

The connection of Islam to the atrocities committed in Sudan needs to be further addressed and I encourage all of you to research and write further on this subject. Innocent people are suffering and the best chance of ending their suffering is for us to take the initial step of educating the world as to why the atrocities are occurring

Arab women singers complicit in rape, says Amnesty report
[July 2004]
While African women in Darfur were being raped by the Janjaweed militiamen, Arab women stood nearby and sang for joy, according to an Amnesty International …

During an attack on the village of Disa in June last year, Arab women accompanied the attackers and sang songs praising the government and scorning the black villagers.

According to an African chief quoted in the report, the singers said: “The blood of the blacks runs like water, we take their goods and we chase them from our area and our cattle will be in their land. The power of [Sudanese president Omer Hassan] al-Bashir belongs to the Arabs and we will kill you until the end, you blacks, we have killed your God.”

The chief said that the Arab women also racially insulted women from the village: “You are gorillas, you are black, and you are badly dressed.”

The Janjaweed have abducted women for use as sex slaves, in some cases breaking their limbs to prevent them escaping, as well as carrying out rapes in their home villages, the report said.

Locking up Sudan’s Al-Bashir could let in some light into war-torn Darfur … Al Bashir launched his own version of terrorism in 1989 when his government promulgated the ‘Popular Defence Forces Law’ which legalised paramilitary training to militias to execute a “jihad against Christian influence in the South”. […]
Under this umbrella fundamentalist Islamic revivalism, the legitimate claims of the peoples of Darfur for an end to their economic backwardness and marginalisation would be subverted through the “jihad”. […]
Al Bashir was urgently accused of committing “genocide” in Darfur. Sudan’s tragedy has been the pathological cruelties of successive leaders (from Jaffar al Nimeiry, Sadiq al Mahdi to Al Bashir), against citizens of their country. Sudanese intellectuals, like Deng and Prof Ibrahim, have seen Arab racism as the curse of Sudan. This terrible virus is claimed to be most virulent in leaders with varying degrees of dark skin and West-African tribal marks—the Janjaweed.

Lebanese Hezbollah Holds Meeting in Support of Sudanese President – Hezbollah pledges support for Omar Al Bashir and the Sudanese Government
Text of report by Lebanese National News Agency website

[LNNA headline: “Hezbollah organizes consultative meeting in support of Sudan and its President Umar al-Bashir”]

A consultative meeting was held this morning at the invitation of Hezbollah. The meeting, which included nationalist parties, Palestinian factions, local figures and organizations, and the charge d’affaires of the Sudanese Embassy at the head of a delegation, was held in support of Sudan and its President Umar Hasan al-Bashir. The meeting was first addressed by Husayn al- Khalil, the political aide to the secretary general of Hezbollah, who said:

“We in Hezbollah are honoured to meet with you today in defence of a national, pan-Arab, and Islamic cause, which is to stand side by side with our brothers in Sudan – leadership and people. This is because this beloved country is facing an ugly conspiracy to undermine its unity, freedom, and independence.”

He added: “The peoples of our region, which is currently in the midst of a historic battle with world arrogance and its dominant forces, are recording the most splendid epics in Lebanon, Palestine, and Iraq, moving the nation from victory to victory and dealing successive blows to the US and Israeli plan. These peoples are now called upon to defend the vanguards of their resistance and liberation movements in the Arab and Islamic worlds. Perhaps, what happened to our kinfolk in Palestine for scores of years and is still happening today and what is currently happening to wounded Iraq, and what is also being planned against brotherly Sudan confirm without the slightest shade of doubt that the process of mutilation and disintegration led by the United States is the core of a hostile plan, which aims controlling the destinies of the nation and its countries, plundering their resources, and enslaving of their peoples.”

He continued: “The deteriorating and weak condition of the official Arab order, which is witnessing daily conflicts between its components and sinking deep in the laps of the US plan, is the one that has made the tools of world crime or what are now called international courts dare to make unprecedented decisions against Arab kings and presidents. If anything, this indicates the humiliation of this ominous official order. The vicious efforts that are being exerted by the United States in the heart of our Arab World aim at changing the real direction of the conflict, split the Arabs into blocs of moderation and extremism and stab at our national crucial issues with Arab hands and portray the Islamic peoples and states such as Iran, which supports us with all its power and capabilities, as a great threat to the Arabs, and exert pressure in order to establish normal and peace alliances with our historic enemy; namely, the Zionist entity; all that constitutes a strong entry of US influence into the heart of our world and society on the political, cultural, and military levels.”

He said: “The unfair and condemned decision which has been made against His Excellency President Umar Hasan al-Bashir and that is aimed at brotherly Sudan – leadership, government, and people, with all their factions, forces, and parties including the Sudanese opposition forces, is aimed at all the noble forces, parties, and liberation movements that oppose the US-Israeli plan. This is in addition to the official regimes. It is also aimed at all the positions of power and opposition in this beloved nation. The painful reality of the official Arab order does not exempt us at all as peoples and liberation movements from assuming our full role in confronting any hostile action against any Arab country and backing its beloved people.

Concluding, he said: “We in Lebanon, the whole of Lebanon, where we went through all experiences in fighting the Zionist occupiers and invaders and where our people made great sacrifices for the liberation of our country and the preservation of our dignity, and who are living these days one of the landmarks of great victory over the Israeli enemy; we who know very well the meaning of aggression, occupation, domination, and foreign interference, are called upon to take a responsible stand by extending the hand of aid to and express our support for our kinfolk and brethren in Sudan – leadership and people – a country, which has often assumed its historic national and Islamic responsibilities.”

AFRICA INSIGHT – Locking up Sudan’s Al-Bashir could let in some light into war-torn Darfur
Story by OKELLO OCULI Publication Date: 7/25/2008

The charges brought by the International Criminal Court against Sudan President Hassan al Bashir present a crack for sunlight to shine through the dark clouds of official terrorism perpetrated for over two decades by the Khartoum regime against helpless peasants, writes OKELLO OCULI

“The oil found in Darfur will turn into a curse for the region, bringing about the loss of many lives, hand in hand with large-scale land alienation and devastation,” so wrote Prof Fouad Ibrahim of Bayreuth University, Germany.

Prof Ibrahim’s pessimistic prediction — published in the Winter 2005-Spring 2006 edition of the Global Development Studies — was rooted in several emerging themes in the governing of Sudan.

At the top of these themes is a historically-rooted division of Sudan’s population along racial lines and unequal access to political, administrative, cultural and economic resources with the lighter skinned Arabs in the Omdurman/Khartoum axis in the Nile valley at the top and the “black African peasants” (such as the million Furs, the Berti, Masalit and Zaghawa who number 350,000 each and inhabit Darfur, at the bottom of the social ladder. (Darfur means the land of the Fur).

According to Ibrahim, the “black African peasants” of Darfur have, since Sudan’s conquest by the British in 1919 and rule by successive post-independence governments from 1956, suffered from sustained neglect and deliberate underdevelopment by the rulers.
Inhabiting the savannah belt of the region, their land enjoys higher rainfall which camel-keeping and livestock-rearing Arab ethnic groups in the desert northern Darfur migrated to, thereby evolving traditions of conflict typical elsewhere in Africa between pastoralists and settled farmers.

A significant element of this tradition was the existence of horse-riding warriors who tracked, also on-horse-back-rustlers, and fought them to win back the animals vital to nomadic peoples. These groups would later be adopted by both Sadiq al Mahdi’s regime (1985-1989) and Hassan al Bashir and supplied with modern weapons and constant supplies of ammunition to wage war against Darfur’s ethnic groups, and others elsewhere.

Al Bashir launched his own version of terrorism in 1989 when his government promulgated the ‘Popular Defence Forces Law’ which legalised paramilitary training to militias to execute a “jihad against Christian influence in the South”.

This was a clever way of using religious fundamentalism to reverse a growing consensus among Sudan’s political parties to end the civil war that had raged intermittently since independence in 1956 against Southern Sudan.
It was a strategy which the National Islamic Front, Al Bashir’s allies, would use to snatch political influence from the Umma Party, the National Democratic Party, the Communist Party and political parties in Southern Sudan whose activism had made Sudan’s political culture vibrant and patriotic.

Under this umbrella fundamentalist Islamic revivalism, the legitimate claims of the peoples of Darfur for an end to their economic backwardness and marginalisation would be subverted through the “jihad”.

Prof Ibrahim’s second theme was a growing tradition of violence to drive away populations from areas that were known to contain oil deposits. This vicious measure was first used by the American oil company, Chevron. In 1976 Chevron recruited Arab tribes to drive out the Dinka and Nuer populations out of villages in oil-rich zones. By 2001, a report by a United States Committee for Refugees stated that from February 1992 to December 1993, the government of Sudan had adopted Chevron’s terrorism with the result that “across the oil-rich regions of Sudan, the government is clearing the land of civilians”.

A Swedish oil company, Lundin Oil, and a Canadian oil concern, Talisman Energy, were using “scorched earth” tactics, arming militias and “engineering famine” against peoples “around oil fields”.

In order to “guarantee the safety of the oil company’s operations” and clear the area for a road to oil concessions, these oil companies gladly embraced and used air facilities they had built, for military helicopters to land troops and rain terror on local populations.

Several official investigations noted this sad situation. As Al Bashir’s regime grew increasingly tied to Sudan’s growing oil economy, a Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights of the UN General Assembly said, in a report issued on September 7, 2001, that Al Bashir’s militias “do not only target rebel camps or armed individuals, but also civilians, in a very intensive manner. Usually food crops are destroyed, men are killed and women and children are abducted”.

When, in self-defence, the terrorised tribes of Darfur raised liberation fighters, they met a Sudanese regime under Al Bashir that, since assuming power in 1989, was accustomed to using maximum violence against settled populations to satisfy its leaders’ hunger for petrol dollars.
Meanwhile a cynical paradox had also grown over the years. American, Canadian and European Union governments were silent on the active and genocidal role played by their oil companies against defenceless populations in Sudan whose only crime was that their ancestors had owned land that held vast oil deposits under their feet.

The West started blaming Al Bashir when it became increasingly clear to it that SPLM /SPLA leader John Garang, in alliance with leaders of opposition political parties in Northern Sudan, had mobilised the grievances and anger of tortured and victimised populations into a new growing revolutionary Sudanese nationalism that had began to take arms against the sadistic impunity of the small elite that coalesced around Al Bashir’s military machine.

But, opting to land safely into the friendship of the leaders of the new revolution, the West began to support the groups fighting to end the terrorism against Darfurians and elsewhere. The vigorous entry by India and China into Sudan’s oil belt also made them develop convulsive fits of panic. An empty rhetorical South-South solidarity among China, India and Sudan was tolerable and even entertaining. But giving China and India access to oil concessions was clearly diabolical.

Commentators on genocide in Rwanda have noted that Hutus with Tutsi mothers were often the most brutal in killing Tutsis. They were apparently anxious to prove the authenticity of their Hutu ethnic nationalism. This situation remains a critical challenge to those working on building national unity in Sudan.
The vast crowds that turned up to welcome John Garang as a hero into Khartoum (after the signing of the peace according ending the civil war in Southern Sudan in 2005), suggests, however, that the quest for justice, freedom and dignity was a more powerful force than shades of skin colour in Sudan.
The positive value of the charge brought by the International Court of Justice in The Hague against Al Bashir is that it has opened a crack for sunlight to shine through the dark clouds of Al Bashir’s official terrorism against Sudan’s helpless peasants for over two decades.
Even if the light does not owe itself to a newly found love for Sudan’s tortured millions by American, Canadian, German, French, British, Indian, Chinese, Russian oil companies and their home governments, it still opens a desperately needed window of hope for a return to the culture of vibrant democratic pluralism that once made Sudan a beacon of hope for oppressed peoples all across Africa.
It is the fall of Al Bashir’s terrorism at the grassroots; authoritarianism against politicised urban populations and cynical manipulation of Islam to kill freedom, justice, economic and human development in Darfur, Southern Sudan, the Red Sea areas and lands along the Egyptian border that will end the disaster in Sudan.
If locking up El Bashir and his cohorts will open the political skies over Sudan, it would be welcome by the silent and oppressed majority of her peoples. The African Union should hear their heartbeats and sighs for sunlight.

Salafi Imam: We Must BELIEVE Arabs are “Master Race”

Salafi Imam: We Must BELIEVE Arabs are “Master Race”

February 19, 2008

In part five of my series Why Blackamerican Muslims Don’t Stand For Justice, I mentioned the racist beliefs held and taught by one of the major leaders of the 1990’s Salafi Movement, Imam Abu Usamah Ath-Thahabi (a Blackamerican), that the Arabs are superior to the non-Arabs (or in other words: the Arabs are the “Master Race”)

My purpose here is to show the insidious nature of this movement in promoting the RACIAL superiority of Arabs. And while the Salafis happen to be the only ones brazen (or foolish) enough to openly preach this swill, it is nevertheless a tightly held secret in many classical Islamic texts. These Salafis actually want to give this repugnant teaching the status of religious dogma. Needless to say, Abu Usamah’s email quoted below explains why so many brothers in that movement suffer from inferiority complexes and try to be Arab. This is what he wrote: below the fold

ARABS are BETTER than Non-Arabs…

Alhamdulilah Was Salaatu Was Salaamu ‘Alaa Rasullilah:

Before dealing with this topic, it should be noted that recognized scholars of the Sunnah differed amongst themselves in this issue. Therefore, people should be careful about the way they choose to deal with the person that has an opposing view to his. If a person takes an opposing view to what is correct and his mistake and faulty opinion is due to him simply being human but he made every effort to follow the truth, then clearly this person is not blameworthy!

After offering up the above disclaimer, the acknowledged “difference of opinion” is further along in the piece repudiated on the authority of his Sheikh (not the Quran and Sunnah), who further adds quite demagogically that those who refuse to accept this divine “truth” are deviants in religion!

Sheikh-ul-Islam, Ibn Taymiyyah (ra) was of the opinion that Arabs ARE SUPERIOR (Afdal) than Non-Arabs and he claimed that this was the view that was held by the MAJORITY of the scholars – ‘Al-Jamhoor’- .

He wrote: “And the MAJORITY of scholars are of the opinion that the Arab species is better (Afdal) than the Non-Arab (species) just as the nation of Quraish is better (Afdal) than the Non-Quraishite nations and (just as) the nation of Bani Haashim is better (Afdal) than the Non-Bani Haashim (nations).” Majm’u Al-Fataawa 19/29

He also wrote: “…This was the position of Imam Ahmed (ra) and the MAJORITY of Ahlul ‘Ilm.” Iqtidaa As-Siraatil-Mustaqeem 2/421

Also, refer to what he said in Majmu’ Fataawa 27/472.

For great scholars of Ahmed ibn Hanbal and Ibn Taymiyyah’s caliber to advance such racist garbage is truly disheartening, nevertheless Ibn Taymiyyah claims it is the position of the “majority” of Muslim scholars. The question for us becomes; is it? Do the scholars of the large immigrant Muslim organizations like I.S.N.A, Q.S.S., C.A.I.R., M.A.S., I.I.I.T, etc, clandestinely subscribe to this noxious belief? Could this possibly explain why Blackamerican Muslims, at least from my observation over the years, are treated like second class citizens in every one of these groups? Is there a conspiracy to perfume and camouflage this reeking, ideological excrement just long enough to smuggle it passed unsuspecting and uninitiated Muslims? And doesn’t the Quran plainly attach the notion of superiority to taqwa (God consciousness) and completely reject any and all such theories of racial superiority? And what about that beautiful scene we fondly remember in the movie “The Message”, when during the Prophet’s final sermon he stated “know that there is no superiority of the Arab over the non Arab….except in the fear of God.”

Further, what is the nature of this “Superiority” anyway? Is it that the Arabs are stronger or super human? Are they inherently more intelligent? Do they have a first class, guaranteed ticket to Paradise? What EXACTLY does superiority mean and why bring it to a people struggling to overcome their own feelings of INFERIORITY? Far from echoing the teachings of the Merciful Lord of all the worlds, it more resembles the rantings of Hitler’s Mein Kampf.

Unfortunately, when discussing the issue of the ‘Afdaliyyah’ or superiority of the Arabs over the ‘Ajamees’ (Non-Arabs), many people fail to do justice to this hotly debated topic.

Muslims – including students of knowledge – tend to tenaciously cling to the fringes of the two extremes and they find it extremely difficult to remain fair, just and balanced!

Text of Libyan Leader’s speech via Media at African Summit – Arab racism

February 10, 2008

Text of Libyan Leader’s speech via Media at African Summit – Arab racism

Why is there a racist position from the Arabs? Our African brothers have their justification.First they consider Arabs immigrants from the Arab peninsula who came and occupied North Africa as they came and occupied Andulsia, the Mediterranean, southern Italy and elsewhere. The second thing, the Arabs not only accused but condemned by contributing to the slave trade in Africa and I announced this and recognised and condemned it strongly. I consider it a shame in the history of the Arabs especially the Arabs in Africa. In the Arab peninsula they treat the blacks as they treat slaves although slavery has no connection with the colour. The slave may be white, black or yellow and the Arabs contributed to hunting the Africans in the jungle as the Americans and the Europeans did. In fact the Arabs practised far worse racism than the racism of the West.

The West shipped blacks and used them like animals, muels, donkeys, camels and horses. As a physical muscle to cover swamps and pave the roads and build a new America and Europe. The Arabs however practised another racism: individualistic racism. They did not use them in such projects but they sold Africans and they processed them individually. The effects of this are still in Libya today and I am fighting such effects. We find that even in Libya social effects and I am against it and it should be abrogated. When there is a social event they bring a black family to cook the food. Why not a white family? If a white family wants to get a reward or money or knows how to cook why not a white family? Why should they only look for a black family to cook the food? Cooking could be done by a white or a black person. But this is the remains of existing Arab racism and we recognise it. When they bring folkloric groups they must be Libyan blacks. Why are the whites not the ones who beat the drums at such festivities. This is shameful and should be changed and it is the remains of racism that they practise. This is the racist culture of the Arabs. The Africans are aware of this and they know that the Arabs despise this race. They sold it and contributed to slavery. This is one of the things that made them that the Arabs should not assume a post. The position in the end is a racist position. The Arabs were initially racists and now the other Africans who are not Arabs are racist against the Arabs existing now.
The other issue that the Arabs in one period had a misunderstanding or shortsightedness during the phase of the liberation of Africa when they stood by the feudals and the sultans who were of Arab origin and sided with the Islamic communities. I mean the Islamic minorities in Africa. And no onw warned them against this mistake save Ahmed Ben Bella when he went to Jamal Abdel Nasser and told him Mr President there is a wrong strategic position exercised by yourself or by Egypt or by the Arabs. What is is? He told him you are making a broadcast inciting Muslims in Zanzibar and Tanjanika and Abyssinia and that region. But the Arabs there are feudals. They are sultans and kings and they are the remains of the old society and these countries want to get liberated. Then if you are attacking Nyere because the feudals in Zanzibar are against Nyere he is a liberation hero, an African hero. All African liberation movements are in Dar Es Salam.

Abdul Naser understood this and said correct and therefore there was a historic and strategic meeting between Jamal Abdul Naser and Nyere to liberate Africa and combat colonialism and racism. Revolutions that took place in Africa especially the socialist progressive revolutions, confronted the sultans, the remains of the Arab sultans, the sheikhs and the feduals who used to occupy vast areas of land enslave people and exercise slavery on blacks to the extent that during that period they asked leaders of the founding fathers of African Unity to deprive the Arabs from being members of the organisation. The Organisation of the African Union should be confined to sub-saharan Africa. Why? They said because the Arabs are racists.
This belief still exists today to a degree that when we say for instance Ali Tereki who is Libyan Arab to be president of the African Union Commission it arouses surprise. Some African leaders are surprised. They say, how, how? It means something new that breaks the custom that we made. The custom that there is a position against the Arabs.

If this takes place, let us suppose that they don’t accept Ali Tereki in Addis Ababa now it means, no doubt a racist position. There is no justification save a racist position. Why Al Tereki is the one to fill the vacuum after Konari? I mean Konari was head of state and he became chairman of the commission. After we removed Konari and replace him with another unknown official, no matter how he was, Konari would leave behind a big vacuum in the African Union Commission and this vacuum must be filled.

Tereki is a veteran, a skilled person, experienced, known by all the Africans. He specialises in Africa and is the best person to assume this post. But they say to you he is from North Africa from the Arabic speaking. We are not accustomed for one from this group to head the OAU or the African Union Commission.

This is the secret behind the surprise now. They were shocked when we presented this name. All of them were shocked. They said we are not accustomed to this. They said a black person is supposed to be the chairman of the commission. Obviously there was a racist culture existing from the Arabs against the Africans and from black Africans against Arabs from the days of Houphuet-Boigny and the days of Singaore.

On the other hand the Arabs were biased to their culture against the African culture. Ben Bella managed to take such a stand and directed this orientation in the right direction and Abdul Nasser was convinced by the explanations of Ben Bella and he reorganised his policies in Africa and played a very important role in Africa and in their unity. He helped the peoples and the liberation movement and played a very important role in Africa, their unity and helping the liberation movements. Egypt played a prominent role in the liberation of Africa.
